Chapter 290: Susanoo and Wood Release

Chapter 290: Susanoo and Wood Release

Tonari turned his gaze in the direction Matatabi had indicated.

His Mangekyō Sharingan spun involuntarily.

Sensing the change in his left eye, his already grim expression turned even darker.

There was only one person who could make his Mangekyō feel slightly uncontrollable.

Without hesitation, he formed a shadow clone, which quickly sank into the ground and disappeared.

His real body leaped forward, heading straight for the source of the ominous presence.

Two hundred meters passed in an instant.

In a remote and rarely visited part of Konoha, he finally saw the person he both expected and yet found surprising.

The figure was cloaked in a long black hooded robe that draped to the ground. Short hair, an orange mask with black spirals covering the face, and a single visible eye—the Mangekyō Sharingan.

Most importantly, that lone eye was identical to the one in Tonari's left socket.

The masked man's eye locked onto Tonari's, particularly his left eye.

"Why is that eye in your possession?"

A deep, slightly hoarse voice came from behind the mask.

There was confusion and shock in his tone, but more than anything—undisguised hostility and hatred.

Tonari's expression was solemn. He felt a hint of relief.

Kushina had not yet gone into labor. If he dealt with this now, then the situation he had feared could be preemptively resolved.

His eyes quickly scanned the area—no other figures were in sight.

Was that man truly gone?

"I asked you…

Why is that Mangekyō Sharingan in your eye socket?!"

The masked man lifted his right hand and pointed directly at Tonari.

The chains wrapped around his wrists rattled. Beneath the black robe, his exposed arm was unnaturally pale.

Tonari took a deep breath.

"…Uchiha Obito."

The name left his lips.

Sure enough, as soon as Tonari spoke the name, Obito's lone eye contracted sharply.

"You… how do you know that name?"

His voice trembled slightly.

He had abandoned that name.

He had risen from the abyss of death, reborn as a harbinger of vengeance. His ideals had ascended beyond personal emotions. He had discarded his past, forgotten his old self—except for her.

Yet, the moment he set foot in Konoha, ready to set his plans in motion… someone called his name.

"Because this eye… is Hatake Kakashi's," Tonari said, raising a finger to point at his left eye.

"That fool who lives in guilt because of his comrade's death—"

"Shut up!" Obito roared, cutting him off.

He pointed at Tonari's eye.

"I entrusted him with my two most precious things.

But he failed. He protected neither of them!

That rule-bound failure has no right to be mentioned before me!"

Tonari's fingers curled slightly. He understood.

There was no point in reasoning with this man.

Years of seething hatred, manipulated by Madara, further twisted by Black Zetsu and White Zetsu—this Obito would not be convinced by mere words.

He had already discarded his humanity.

Even now, he was ready to attack his former sensei and his pregnant wife.

There was only one way.

Beat him down first. Then, reveal the truth. Only then would Obito see.

Tonari flexed his fingers.

"In that case, I'll take you back myself—on behalf of your sensei."

Obito's eye narrowed.

For a moment, he was silent.

Then, unexpectedly, he spoke in a calm voice.

"If you possess my other Mangekyō, then I am not your opponent."

Tonari frowned.

A bad feeling stirred in his chest.

"But I did not come here to fight you."

Obito's right eye began to distort the surrounding space.

Kamui.

Tonari's unease grew stronger.

Slowly, the space twisted and settled again.

And a second figure emerged.

Dressed in deep red armor, his long black hair falling freely behind him.

Uchiha Madara.

Tonari's pupils shrank.

"…Madara."

The name barely left his lips.

That man—Uchiha Madara, who should have been dead—stood before him once more.

Still alive.

Still standing.

His physical appearance was identical to the last time Tonari had encountered him.

That could mean only one thing.

Impure World Reincarnation.

Madara opened his eyes, surveying his own body.

Clenching his fist, he tested the strength within.

Then, he smirked.

"This White Zetsu-based body is still lacking. It cannot compare to my prime…"

His smirk widened into a grin.

"But it is enough.

Let us enjoy this last dance, shall we?"

BOOM—!

A tremendous surge of chakra erupted from Madara's body, sending shockwaves through the surrounding forest.

Tonari's expression tightened.

His worst fear had been realized.

He had assumed that if he planned carefully, preparing for the exact moment Kushina went into labor, he could neutralize Obito's attempt.

But he had forgotten—his presence had already changed the course of history.

Madara was not dead.

And they weren't waiting for Kushina to give birth naturally.

They planned to force her labor.

If they didn't know the exact birth date, they would simply accelerate the process.

Because in the end, the only thing they needed—was Kurama.

Tonari clenched his fists.

Madara met his gaze with gleaming eyes.

"If you truly believe you can stop us, then show me—Hokage of Konoha."

Tonari inhaled deeply.

He had no choice but to fight.

No choice but to end this quickly.

To get back before it was too late.

His eyes hardened.

The markings of Sage Mode spread across his face.

"Madara. You are not of this era.

You should have passed on. Instead, you still grasp at life, meddling in the affairs of the present.

You will not succeed."

Madara arched a brow. Then, he grinned.

"Interesting.

At first, I thought you were just another pawn—another tool to be discarded.

But it seems you know far too much.

Let's see if you are worthy of that confidence."

He took a step forward.

Tonari's figure blurred—

BOOM!

A fist smashed into Madara's face.

Madara's smirk vanished.

His body was launched through the air, crashing through countless trees, carving a deep trench into the earth.

The real Tonari stood where he had been moments ago.

The afterimage flickered and disappeared.

Madara was still for a moment, then slowly pushed himself to his feet.

"…I see."

His voice was low, tinged with amusement.

"You are not completely useless."

The ground trembled.

A towering Susanoo rose behind Madara, its form colossal.

It wielded twin enormous blades, lightning crackling along their edges.

Tonari's grin faded.

He inhaled.

Clapped his hands together.

"Wood Release: Deep Forest Emergence!"

The earth cracked apart.

Massive trees exploded from the ground, engulfing Susanoo's towering form.

Madara laughed.

"Ahh… you do resemble him after all."

He gestured.

Susanoo's swords crackled with electricity—

And slashed downward.

A battle that would shake the entire village—had begun.
