__________

After waiting for less than half an hour, there was a knock on the hotel door.

Jason walked over cautiously and looked out through the peephole.

A woman was standing outside, wearing a black windbreaker, a baseball cap, a mask, and sunglasses.

Through her figure and subtle features, Jason recognized that the woman outside was Christine.

As expected of a big star, she's so cautious even when going out.

Jason suddenly had a bad idea. He opened the door and looked at Vermouth with curiosity, "Excuse me, Miss. I don't need room service."

Looking at the stranger in front of her, Christine was startled at first, took two steps back, and then stared at Jason's face carefully.

After a moment, Christine smiled contemptuously, "Humph! Don't show off your poor makeup skills in front of me."

Jason was surprised. His current appearance was completely different from his real self. Even Christine could recognize him. She truly was worthy of being the Witch with a Thousand Faces.

Moving aside to let her enter the room, Christine walked in and saw Harley sitting on the sofa in her pajamas, peeling fruit.

There was a bit of unnaturalness on Christine's face, but it quickly returned to normal.

"You are Dr. Harleen Quinzel, the former special criminal psychologist at Long Island Prison in New York? The news said that you helped Jason escape from prison."

"Yes. Who are you?" Harley stood up and walked toward her.

Unfortunately, Christine was nearly 1.8 meters tall, while Harley was only 1.7 meters tall, half a head shorter than Vermouth.

Both of them had long light golden hair, and they looked like sisters standing together.

Christine looked Harley up and down, then turned to Jason and shook her head, saying, "Your standards for women have really dropped again."

Jason curled his lips and ignored her comment.

Harley frowned, narrowed her eyes, and threatened, "Excuse me, what did you just say?"

Christine smacked her lips in disdain, "The face is okay, but the legs are too short."

Phew!

Jason couldn't help laughing.

Harley's legs were not really short, but compared to Christine's nearly 1.2-meter-long legs, they were still a little shorter.

When Harley heard this, her mentality completely exploded.

Her eyes filled with anger, and her fists clenched.

"Alright!"

Jason hurried over, grabbed Harley's arm, and then looked at Christine with dissatisfaction, "I didn't ask you to come here to comment on my girlfriend's figure."

Christine glared at him with a slightly angry expression.

"Okay, if you have anything to say, just say it now. I have something else to do this afternoon."

After saying that, she took off her windbreaker, threw it on the sofa, sat down, crossed her long white legs, took out a slender lady's cigarette from her handbag, and lit it.

She took a deep breath and then gently exhaled the smoke.

Christine was a heavy smoker, a habit she developed in her childhood.

Jason pulled Harley to sit across from her and said bluntly, "We're all acquaintances, so I'll be frank. Money's a bit tight lately, and New York is under martial law again, so I came to Los Angeles to see if there's any way to make a fortune."

"Kingpin has billions of assets in his hands. How could you be short of money after killing him?"

Jason felt a pang of heartache when he mentioned this, "Uh... due to some special reasons, I didn't get a penny from Kingpin's assets."

"Really?" Vermouth couldn't help but laugh, "The purpose of being a gangster is to make money, but you've worked so hard for nothing. How foolish of you."

Hearing this, Harley became furious and was about to explode, but Jason held her back.

"That's why I came to Los Angeles to find you. The Joker organization is just starting out, and we need a lot of money."

Vermouth thought for a moment and put out the two-thirds of her cigarette.

"Since your organization is so short of money, why not move to Los Angeles?"

Jason laughed, "You mean, you want me to join your organization?"

Christine spread her hands, "Is it not possible? As long as you bring all the members of your organization to Los Angeles, I can let you be the second-in-command of the organization—Whiskey! Isn't Scotch whisky your favorite?"

Jason refused without hesitation, "I'm sorry, but I never put myself below others."

"Then what's the matter with you shaking your head and tail under Kingpin all these years?" Christine said angrily, thinking of what happened three years ago.

"So, Kingpin is dead, and died miserably!" Jason said, "And what you just said is exactly what I want to tell you."

"Hmph! You wish." Vermouth snorted coldly, "I gave you a chance three years ago, but you refused."

"Three years ago, the timing was wrong. At that time, resisting Kingpin would have resulted in death."

Jason thought to himself, it was all because the damn system didn't show up earlier that he had to suffer for so many years.

"The timing is still not right. New York is under martial law, and you are the most wanted criminal in the United States. If I follow you to New York, I'll still die."

"Okay, I don't want to argue with you about this. You'll understand it slowly in the future."

Jason hated meaningless arguments, so he brought the topic back to the matter at hand, "Tell me, is there any way to make money in Los Angeles recently?"

Christine said, "There are many ways to make money in Los Angeles, but what can you two do?"

Jason smiled and kindly reminded, "You are a popular star in the United States. You must know a lot of rich people. Is there any rich person who's not at home recently and happens to have a lot of cash hidden at home?"

Christine was stunned for a moment, then sneered, "Stealing? You used a little trick from more than ten years ago, and now you're using it again? Don't you feel embarrassed?"

"Don't blush! I'm a very realistic person. I'll do anything to make money, whether it's cheating, stealing, or robbing."

"Oh, you're really not picky about food."

Christine made a double entendre, then lit another cigarette and leaned back on the sofa to think.

"Don't look!" Harley suddenly covered Jason's eyes.

A few minutes later, Christine showed a strange smile on her face, "Got it, I found a way to make a fortune."

Jason quickly asked, "What way?"

"Have you ever heard of the name Avril?"

Jason glanced at Harley and said, "Of course, the hottest singer in America."

"You two go and kidnap her, then ask her family for a ransom. She's a super-rich woman, and you'll definitely make a fortune."

"Kidnap Avril?" Jason frowned, "You aren't having a conflict with Avril, and you're using me as a weapon?"

Christine said disdainfully, "Don't forget my identity. If I had a conflict with her, do you think I would let her live until now?"

Jason sneered, "Your Crow organization has only been established for three years. There shouldn't be many subordinates who can handle important tasks. To avoid suspicion, you can't do it yourself. Is this a sufficient reason?"

Christine's face froze, "You want to invite me to join the Joker, but how can I feel at ease if you don't show me your strength?"

She continued, "Of course, I won't force you to do this, but if you don't want to do it, I don't have any other options for you."

After saying that, she threw away her cigarette and prepared to leave.

"Wait!"

Jason suddenly called out to her.

"That Avril... is she really rich?"

Christine stopped, turned around, and said seriously, "Avril can become the best-selling artist on Billboard with just one album. Do you think she has no money?"

Jason stopped talking.

Come to think of it, how could a singer who's so popular that she's known to every household be poor?

But he was still a little hesitant. Avril was Harley's idol, and he had to get her consent before doing this.

Jason turned around and asked, "Harley, you... what are you looking at?"

Harley's eyes lit up, her face full of anticipation, as if she had discovered some new world.

"What did you say?"

"I said, what do you think about kidnapping Avril? Tell me the truth, and don't worry about my feelings. Even if I don't do this, I have other ways to get the money."

Harley nodded frantically and said, "That's a great idea, I agree!"

Jason was immediately shocked, "Isn't Avril your idol? You actually agreed to it."

Harley smiled and explained, "She is indeed my idol. I went to every concert she had in New York."

"Every time, I would save up half a month's salary to buy a seat in the front row, but unfortunately, I never got a ticket and could only sit in the back row and look at the backs of the people in front of me."

"If you kidnap her, I can make her hold concerts for me every day."
