"I-I'm not going to b-buy it after all. P-please cancel it," as if she snapped out of her thoughts, the middle-aged woman whispered in a small voice. I stepped back behind Xavier to let him handle her.
Tears pooled in her eyes, and she bit her lip to stifle a sob. Her body trembled as she fought against whatever inner turmoil had driven her to buy those items in the first place.
Xavier, nodded slowly, reaching for her trembling hands. He gently took the crumpled bills and returned them to her pocket, reassuringly guiding her towards a seat at the food table in the corner of the store.
"You made a good choice," he said softly, creating a safe space for her.
