Chapter 25

He looked tired but strong. When Arlena walked into the tent, his head automatically turned to her.

“Hey,” Boren smiled.

Arlena didn’t reply to him. She slowly came closer and carefully lifted his blindfold.

“I missed you,” he said softly, exploring every inch of her face as if he hadn’t seen her in years. “How have you been?”

“Fine,” she cut in, “Safe, as you wanted.”

“Are you mad at me?”

“No,” she said, lifting his shirt and looking at the dark red spot on his bandages. “Why would I be?”

“You’re mad at me,” he concluded, stretching his body towards her. His face buried in her hair as he deeply inhaled her scent. “Don’t be, I did what I had to keep you safe.”

“From what?” She raised her gaze and looked into his eyes. Her heart was beating so heavily that it caused her pain.
