Chapter 35

Rachel POV

The atmosphere shifted dramatically in an instant. Our brief, unexpected moment of intimacy was replaced by a sense of tension and unease. "What are you talking about?" I asked, trying to move closer to Aderemi, to see the image on his phone and understand the sudden change. But he recoiled, taking a step back, and my heart sank.

It was barely two minutes since we'd parted from our passionate kiss. Now, Aderemi's face was contorted in anger. "You should never have gone out to see him " he muttered, his voice rising to a near-shout as he paced back and forth in the confined space. The music and chatter surrounding us made it almost impossible to hear his words, but the anguish on his face was unmistakable.

"Can we take this outside?" I asked, desperate to avoid drawing attention to ourselves. Aderemi muttered something incoherent and strode out of the room, leaving me to chase after him. He finally stopped, ensuring we were out of earshot.
