The Auction

Roan approached Asher in the quiet moments after the gathering, his tone low but urgent. "Court Consort, before I dismiss myself, there is one more thing. Lord Elias Horton requested a private audience with you during the event. He seemed particularly interested in the topic of the beggar you mentioned earlier."

Asher raised an eyebrow. "Elias Horton? What did he say?"

"He was careful with his words, but he seemed to be testing the waters. I advised him to speak directly with you if it was truly important."

Asher nodded, intrigued. "Send him to me."

Later, Elias Horton approached Asher with an air of casualness that didn't quite mask his curiosity. He began with pleasantries, but the conversation quickly turned to his real interest.

"I was quite taken aback by what you said earlier about the beggar," Elias began, his voice smooth but probing. "Surely you don't believe such…filth should be allowed to roam the streets unchecked?"
