It was a fight filled with suspense from the moment Ethan got up again after he was knocked out. The crowd couldn't put a finger on it, but he seemed like an entirely different person. The way he moved, the intensity in his gaze, and the eerie smile that lingered on his lips till now all hinted at the profound change.
But like a stream of water, Ethan's expression shifted from that of someone who had just dominated his opponent in a fight to one of a naive young man once again. The fierce intensity in his eyes faded, replaced by a look of confusion and vulnerability.
Ethan's innocence shone through, and the crowd, sensing the shift, murmured in surprise. They had witnessed a fierce fighter, but now they were seeing a young man who seemed lost and bewildered
He stumbled backward, seemingly in shock over what had just happened to him. Staring at his hands, he slowly turned his attention to the now floating Kai, who had reverted to his eerily haunting self.
They both understood what the other was thinking and came to the conclusion that now wasn't the time for a Q&A session; that could wait. What mattered most was how things would play out from here.
He was shaken to the core by how easily Kai had taken control of his body. Fear gripped him—he felt terrified and foolish for never considering the possibility of possession. 'I'm so dumb! He's a ghost Ethan! A ghost! I've been taking this too lightly from the start. I shouldn't have trusted Kai so easily! He's a literal ghost of the most notorious gang in the city. What if he was planning this all along, waiting for the moment to seize my consciousness while I was knocked out?'
Panic surged within him. 'No, I have to get out of here!'
He wanted to leave, needed to leave, but in his panic, he was grateful that he didn't forget where he was and what he was doing there. 'Calm down, Ethan. You need to finish what you came here for; other things can wait for now.'
He had come to join the White Tiger gang, and unless he got kicked out of the building, he didn't see a way to simply walk away after beating one of their fighters so badly.
As Ethan was stuck in his mind, battling his internal struggles, Kai was also lost in thought over what had just transpired. He seemed even more transparent than before, his form flickering as he fought against the instinct that screamed at him to let loose and cause harm to his host.
The urge threatened to consume him completely, but he knew he couldn't abandon Ethan now. He had brought the kid here; he might as well see him through it.
The crowd watched with a myriad of expressions, puzzled by the turmoil playing out on Ethan's face. One moment he was determined, the next confused, then scared, only to revert back to determination. It was a whirlwind of emotions that left the spectators intrigued and concerned.
None of that mattered, however, as the curator of the fight club sent someone to fetch Ethan, which seemed to pull him out of his thoughts. The figure approached, a tall man with an imposing presence, and Ethan felt a knot tighten in his stomach as he felt a new wave of anxiety.
