Beautiful eyes

Chapter Four

Mason

She has the most beautiful laugh; they could light up the whole room.

I stood by the fireplace, watching Emily laugh as she hugged her mother, Esther, and exchanged pleasantries with who I perceived to be her uncle. She called him 'Uncle Robert' a few times. I couldn't help but look around my surroundings: the marble floors and expensive paintings on every wall, the high ceiling, and a big chandelier at the center of the hall.

It was like a house from a Hollywood movie,I had known she was well-to-do from the moment I pulled her out of a sleek Porsche but this mansion confirmed that "well-to-do" was an understatement. And now that she would be taking over White Nova Robotics as CEO soon, it felt so unreal I was speaking with such a powerful personality. White Nova had always been the company I wanted to work in before I built mine, this was all too much to take in.

I was tempted to pinch myself to see if I wasbr dreaming but that would only make me look weird.

So I just put on a friendly smile on my face and gazed at everyone.

Robert turned to me, staring at me from head to toe, he then extended his hand and I took it with a nod and squeezed it softly. "Thank you again Mason for accepting this request and saving my niece out of that wreck. Emily right here lost her father a few years ago in a car accident maybe if you hadn't intervened that would have been her fate, you are truly an angel sent from heaven. I don't know what we would've done if you hadn't been there."

"I just happened to be there at the right time sir," I responded with my hands in my pocket. "I'm glad to be of so much help, I'm just happy she is okay." I glared at Emily, who was still laughing at something her mom said. She was such a happy soul. The best death experience hasn't dulled her spirit.

Robert leaned closer," I appreciate you taking this job offer but also I need you to understand this is a delicate job, I could have picked anybody else but I chose you because we need someone like you, kind-hearted And caring to ensure Emily is safe and with all the new changes going on at White nova, Emily needs all the help she can get, is that clear?"

I nodded, a serious look plastered on my face. "I will not let you down Mr. Roberts, I've also dreamt of collaborating with White Nova Robotics, this is like a dream come true, I promise not to take it for granted sir."

"Good, I guess I will see  you tomorrow Maze,"

"It's Mason sir," I corrected and he grinned.

"Okay Mason, that should be all for now right?"

"Yes, it is, thanks Mr. Robert, I will resume tomorrow," I said giving him a firm handshake. I turned to face Emily, realizing that up until now, I hadn't even known her name. " and it's nice to finally learn that your name is Emily."

She smiled innocently, glancing up at me wearing a playful look. " yeah I guess it's nice to meet my hero officially,"

I chucked looking down at the floor rubbing the back of my neck then looking up into her eyes. " I guess helping people is my thing. But it is nice to meet you, Emily, it's getting dark, I should get going."

"Are you sure you don't need my driver to drop you off at your side?" She asked, her tone laced with concern. " you have been up all day helping me from the hospital. You don't have to stress yourself—"

"I'm fine Emily," I said, smiling down at her. " I've got my car, and it's a short drive from here."

Esther wheeled her chair to our direction waving her hands to call out attention.

"Listen to Emily, we have so many rooms here, you could stay in one of them, you should stay for the night and have dinner with us."

I smiled at her and nodded," Thank you, Mrs White, Offering me a job is already enough for me plus I have to attend to someone at home."

I really wanted to accept but I badly wanted to run off and share this good news with Madison, finally, our prayers have been answered and she can now live the life she had always dreamt of.

Esther smiled, though I could sense she was a little bit disappointed I turned her down.

"Very well. We won't force you to stay if you don't want to, but just know that you are always welcome here Mason, thank you so much for saving my daughter."

"You are welcome ma'am," I turned to leave throwing a quick wink at Emily. She smiled softly, shaking her head. " Take care, Emily," I said, waving at her.

"See you tomorrow, My hero," She responded, her voice warm and soft.

As I stepped out, the evening airbrushed my skin making me have goosebumps, it felt very satisfying and exciting.

As I headed to the car, I began to reminisce on the whole event, how I had saved her from the accident and the job offer. I wasn't expecting to land a job at White Nova, making it my first highest-paying job. Especially after the fight I had with Madison earlier this morning about me finding a job.

She would be so happy when she learns about this good news.

I chuckled to myself as I hopped into the car, inserted the key in the ignition switch watching the car come to life.

The drive to my street was longer than I thought, or maybe it was because I was taking notes of how many seconds had passed by. As I took a right turn into my street I slowed down the car, squinting through my fogged-up window at two figures just outside my house. Madison… and my boss, Mr. Montez.

They were standing too close to each other and it didn't take long to see what was going on. My stomach tightened as I watched Madison lean in to kiss him on the lips and he grabbed her butt like he owned them.

I gripped the steering wheel tightly barely trying to keep calm as I parked at the garage. Without thinking I stormed out of the car not forgetting to close the door and marched up to the house.

"Madison, what the hell is happening here?" I yelled, my voice laced with anger, confusion, and something else, betrayal.

They broke away from their embrace, both of them looking equally shocked to see me. Madison's expression went from surprise to anger as she crossed her arms across her chest, her gaze averting from mine.

"Oh, Mason, don't act so surprised like you didn't see it coming." she snapped, clearly unbothered by my presence.

My gaze rested on Mr Montez, who seemed bothered too, and unapologetic. " And you Mr Montez I work for you, you are supposed to be my boss."I snarled, barely able to contain my anger.

He shrugged, offering nothing but a cold and apathetic look. It only made my blood boil in anger

"You know what? I am done, I quit this job, I'm glad I don't have to come to that dumb company or write a shitty resignation letter," I said unable to stop the word from coming out of my mouth, " it was a crappy job anyway. And you Madison—" I turned back to stare at her, she looked down at her feets feeling a bit of shame now." I loved you Maddie, I didn't have much but I was willing to give you everything, you knew I would be coming home tonight, you did this on purpose right?"

She looked up at me trying to mutter words but I cut her off. "I was going to tell you about the new job I just landed and about everything that happened today, but instead you were here making out with  my boss? Do you despise me that much?"

Madison scoffed, rolling her eyes. " stop playing the victim, its getting stale, you pushed me into this, you are always off doing your own thing, sitting all night in front of your goddamn computer. Maybe, just maybe if you gave me a little attention and money I wouldn't be looking for it somewhere else."

"You have to stop blaming me!" I snapped, tempted to call her names I would regret. " I gave you affection, showed you love and the second things stopped working for me you ran off to someone else?"

She grabbed her purse with a look of pure defiance in her eyes. " You stopped being available a long time ago, Mason. Maybe Mr. Montez is more of a man than you, he buys me expensive things and takes me out on dates, we have been dating for three years and you aren't even financially capable of marrying me, maybe I don't care if you are upset and hurt because you don't deserve me, I deserve more, I deserve Mr Montez." She said holding his hands.

I stood there fighting the urge to cry.

"Fine," I said, stepping back, " Then leave."

She smiled at me," Gladly, I would happily leave Mason, the landlord is going to throw us out anyways. I hope your new little job pays your house ren, ill be back for my luggages."

She huffed and stormed out along with Mr. Montez. I didn't bother watching her leave; I just listened to her footsteps until they faded away.
