Pull Off His Pants

In the corner of the staircase.

Qiao Xi saw the flashing name on her phone and, despite her reluctance, answered the call.

"Hello?"

"Xi Xi." Zhao Yuzhen's voice came from the other end, soft and probing. "I heard that Second Master Huo has woken up? Is it true that his legs are really useless now?"

The doctor had just delivered the diagnosis, and the Su family was already in the know about the internal matters.

Zhao Yuzhen didn't seem concerned about how the Huo family would deal with a replacement bride. She didn't ask about how Qiao Xi spent the night. Instead, she was probing for details.

Qiao Xi's heart grew colder.

She replied flatly, "If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up."

"Wait!" Zhao Yuzhen's tone grew urgent. "Help your sister out! Huo Xingzhou has a major project—the one between Tianyuan Group and the Huo family. If you can convince him to sign the Project Transfer Agreement, your sister can marry Huo Dasha, and you two could become sisters-in-law."

Qiao Xi laughed bitterly.

"Why do you think I can help? I'm just a substitute bride with no standing."

Zhao Yuzhen coaxed her patiently, "Once you marry him, he woke up. Now, the Huo family's second branch is counting on you. Besides, he's already a cripple. What's the point of holding onto a project like that? It's better to let it go and help your sister marry Huo Dasha."

Zhao Yuzhen's voice was laced with greed. After the project is finished, it could bring in billions of profits. Huo Xingzhou was holding onto this project to maintain his position in the Huo family.

"I can't help you."

As Qiao Xi was about to hang up, Zhao Yuzhen's voice became shrill. "That old woman from the countryside has been brought to the Su family! If you don't agree, you'll never see her again."

"Are you even human?" Qiao Xi shouted angrily. "She's my grandmother, your mother-in-law!"

All these years, if it weren't for her grandmother raising her, she would have been dead by now.

Her grandmother had lived a hard life, scrimping and saving to send her to school, and it had worn her body down. No matter how hard she tried to learn medicine from old neighbor Grandpa Cheng, she couldn't save her grandmother's exhausted body.

Zhao Yuzhen actually forced her to travel so far! She didn't even know how much suffering that old lady had endured.

"Your father died long ago, and that old woman is not related to me by blood," Zhao Yuzhen said coldly.

Qiao Xi clenched the phone so tightly her knuckles turned white, her fingers shaking.

She bit her lip, tears welling in her eyes as she asked, "Am I still your real daughter?"

Zhao Yuzhen paused, her voice cold and indifferent. "Wei Wei is the daughter I raised. She's of good family, has grace, and talent. If you can marry Huo Xingzhou, she naturally deserves to marry someone even better. I don't care whether you steal or snatch it, you must do it."

"On the day of the return visit, I'll be waiting for good news. Otherwise... that old woman is at an age where anything could happen."

With that, Zhao Yuzhen hung up.

A cold chill spread from the soles of Qiao Xi's feet up her spine. The air she inhaled felt like knives cutting at her throat and lungs, stinging sharply.
