The following day.
According to tradition, it was time for the "three-day return" visit.
Mrs. Dujuan personally selected fine cigarettes, alcohol, tea, and sweets. She also brought a beautifully preserved century-old ginseng, thinking that the Su family had done something good.
"Qiao Xi, I'm sorry. Xingzhou's health isn't holding up, so you'll have to go back alone," she said apologetically, holding Qiao Xi's hand.
Qiao Xi, dressed in a light green long dress, nodded slightly.
She glanced toward the second floor of the small villa. They had parted on bad terms yesterday, and she still hadn't gotten the "Project Transfer Agreement" from Ho Xingzhou. It seemed like she'd have to find another way to bring it back for Grandma.
"I'll leave now," Qiao Xi said.
"Be careful on the road," Dujuan said, stepping back as she watched Qiao Xi get into the car and leave.
Inside the car, Qiao Xi let her hand fall to her side, the cuff of her sleeve pinned with a silver needle that formed a delicate flower pattern. It wasn't particularly noticeable, but this trip home would surely require a battle of wits.
At worst, she'd have to sever ties completely.
When the car arrived at the Su family home, there wasn't a single servant waiting at the door.
Qiao Xi walked into the living room, and the chattering voices abruptly stopped.
"Xixi!" Zhao Yuzhen rushed to her side, greeting her warmly, "You're finally back. Why didn't the second young master come with you?"
Su Weiwei sat on the sofa, looking down her nose at Qiao Xi, mocking, "Who would want a village girl? Ho Xingzhou is too ashamed to bring her back."
"Weiwei."
Su Heng, sitting across from them, put down his newspaper and spoke sternly, "Don't talk to your sister like that."
Weiwei shrugged nonchalantly, unbothered.
"Qiao Xi, come sit down and have some tea," Su Heng said, trying to defuse the tension. "Sisters should help each other, be kind and united. Soon you two will be sisters-in-law, and you'll need to be close. Weiwei is spoiled by me, so please be patient with her."
"Yes, you two are like real sisters," Zhao Yuzhen added, testing the waters. "Xixi, have you heard any news about the old doctor Cheng Han from the Ho family? If you find anything, let me know."
She had been unable to conceive for many years, and after visiting countless doctors, all said there was no cure. She had heard that Cheng Han had a miraculous remedy for fertility.
Qiao Xi watched their nauseating performance and sarcastically remarked, "What, do you have a disease too?"
"You are so rude!" Zhao Yuzhen slapped her.
The red palm print appeared on Qiao Xi's fair cheek as she stared at Zhao Yuzhen, feeling a surge of injustice and intense resentment.
So this was her biological mother.
"My stepmother has always said that this little wench only responds to force, but you and my father insisted on using kindness first," Su Weiwei sneered. "Qiao Xi, hand over the 'Project Transfer Agreement.'"
"Where is my grandmother?" Qiao Xi snapped. "I'll give it to you once I see her."
"You didn't get it, did you?" Weiwei sneered. "Then you're going to suffer today. Step-mother, why are you standing there? Hold her down and search her!"
"Get away!"
Qiao Xi swiftly took out a needle and pressed it into Weiwei's arm pressure point.
"Ah!" Weiwei cried out in pain, unable to move as Qiao Xi held her in place.
"Qiao Xi, let go of your sister!" Zhao Yuzhen shouted in panic. "Don't hurt Weiwei!"
Her heart was only for Weiwei.
Qiao Xi's face turned cold as she said, "I want to see my grandmother!"
"Nannan!" Footsteps rushed from the stairs.
"What's the old woman doing coming down here?"
A frail elderly woman, her hair silver, was panting as she hurried down the stairs. Zhao Yuzhen grabbed her arm. "Old hag, what are you running for?"
"Grandmother!"
Qiao Xi's heart tightened seeing her grandmother's pale face. Her eyes welled up. It was clear her grandmother had not been resting well at the Su family, and she looked much more frail.
"Grandmother, don't cry. I'm fine," Qiao Xi's grandmother said, her voice trembling with tears. "Yuzhen, that's your biological daughter."
She pleaded, "Yuzhen, don't force her. This child has suffered since she was young."
How could her daughter-in-law become like this?
"If she hands over the things, I'll let her go. Otherwise..." Zhao Yuzhen tightened her grip on the old woman's arm.
Seeing this, Qiao Xi immediately pressed another needle into Weiwei's shoulder point. Weiwei's body went numb.
"Step-mother, step-mother, help me!" Weiwei cried out in fear.
Qiao Xi spoke, each word sharp: "Let us go."
The scene froze. The tension was unbearable, the atmosphere thick with anger.
Su Heng finally stood up, his face full of disdain. "You're too soft, young one. If you can't keep your cool, you've already lost."
He grabbed the old woman's head and slammed it against the wall.
Thud.
The elderly woman's forehead turned purple, and she couldn't make a sound.
Qiao Xi felt like her heart was being ripped apart. "No!"
"Hand over the things, and we'll release her. Don't try any tricks. I, Su Heng, have been in business for years. You're no match for me." He was determined. Weiwei had to marry Ho Xingzhou.
Just then, there was movement outside the yard, and security guards hurriedly rushed in.
"Mr. Su, the second young master from the Ho family has arrived!"
Ho Xingzhou?
Su Heng released his grip, straightened his clothes, and arrogantly said, "It won't change anything if he comes. He's just a cripple about to be abandoned by his family. He'll amount to nothing."
"He's brought a hundred or so people with him!" the security guard said, panic-stricken. "All of them are tough and strong."
As soon as the words were spoken, large, burly men in suits and sunglasses flooded the room, filling the entire living room with their intimidating presence.
In the center of them, a man sat in a wheelchair. His cold, pale face was sharp and imposing, exuding an air of arrogance and defiance.
Some people, even with their legs crippled, are like the moon in the sky, unreachable, untouchable.
Weiwei stared, her mind reeling. This man was supposed to be hers.
"Second young master, what is this about? You're trespassing on private property! I could call the police!" Su Heng said, his confidence faltering at the sight of so many people.
Ho Xingzhou's indifferent gaze swept across the room, landing on Qiao Xi, who looked helpless.
Where was the ruthlessness he had shown when she undressed him?
"I'm here to take my wife home. Is there a problem?" he said, his thin lips barely moving.
The strong bodyguards pushed past Su Weiwei and Zhao Yuzhen, pulling Qiao Xi and her grandmother to him. When Qiao Xi saw him, tears couldn't help but fall.
"My grandmother was beaten. We need to go to the hospital," she said, checking the old lady's pulse. The injury wasn't serious, but her chronic illnesses had taken their toll.
"Let's go."
He spoke calmly.
Qiao Xi helped her grandmother into the car, and the driver followed behind with Ho Xingzhou's wheelchair. Turning back, he warned the Su family, "I'm not disinherited from the Ho family yet, so it's not your place to make trouble."
Su Heng trembled with anger. He would see how the Ho family's second branch would rule in the future!
As they left the Su house, the bodyguards lined up and boarded a bus waiting at the community entrance.
Qiao Xi looked at him, puzzled. The Ho family's second branch could afford so many bodyguards, all well-organized, with a bus to shuttle them.
Was this Ho Xingzhou's trump card?
"The people..." she began, hesitating.
The man, with his gentle yet confident demeanor, glanced over at her. "Actors hired by the film studio," he said casually.
