Dr. Qiao, You’re Amazing!

Qiao Xi quickly pushed the door open and entered.

Old Lady Liu was lying on the floor, her face pale, clutching her chest, and soon lost consciousness.

Qiao Xi's face turned serious as she quickly pressed the emergency button by the bed.

"Old Lady Liu!"

"Wake up, Old Lady!"

Time was critical, and with fewer staff available at the nurse's station during the lunch break, Qiao Xi laid the elderly woman flat on the bed. She noticed that her breathing was weak, and her heartbeat had slowed drastically.

She placed one hand firmly on the center of her chest, with the other following as she began CPR.

"1001!"

"1002!"

She counted urgently, her face tense, and the nurse quickly arrived to assist and contacted the cardiology department.

"Secure the oxygen mask, apply the electrode pads."

"Yes! Qiao Xi, hold steady!" The nurse knelt beside her, preparing the equipment. In such moments, nurses didn't dare to interrupt an intern's emergency procedure.

"No defibrillation needed! Continue chest compressions!"

She had made it through the golden four minutes!

Qiao Xi bit her lip, her hair damp with sweat, pressing firmly and quickly!

The nurse observed the ECG, her body tense. Suddenly, the curve returned to normal. "Dr. Qiao! The heartbeat is back!"

Qiao Xi relaxed her hands and collapsed to the floor, exhausted.

"Prepare oxygen and check her vitals."

The waiting nurse and doctor quickly took over, and Qiao Xi collapsed into a nearby chair, staring blankly at her hands.

Old Lady Liu was transferred to the bed, and after a series of checks, no other symptoms were found.

It had been a fall that caused her heart to stop.

"I'm fine, really," Old Lady Liu had regained consciousness and, slightly embarrassed, said, "I just felt some sensation in my lower limbs and wanted to see if I could walk."

Partial paralysis in the lower limbs could potentially be treated, and Dr. Yan's medical skills were outstanding. Old Lady Liu was finally convinced.

Once she was confirmed to be okay, the doctors and nurses left, asking Qiao Xi to keep an eye on her.

The only sound in the room was the beeping of the medical equipment.

"Xiao Qiao, thank you. I almost met the Grim Reaper," Old Lady Liu lay weakly in bed, saying, "If after death I could see my old man, that wouldn't be so bad."

Qiao Xi, wearing her mask, her ears red from the pressure, tried to comfort her. "You should hire a caregiver to look after you regularly; next time, you might not be so lucky."

She wasn't a critically ill patient, but due to her eccentric temper, the doctors and nurses didn't have enough energy to care for her, and who could have guessed that this would happen?

"I don't want a caregiver. I just want to go home. There are traces of my husband everywhere in the house." Old Lady Liu's eyes reddened. "I miss him. It's good enough to burn three sticks of incense in front of his memorial tablet every day."

It turned out that the rumors about her deep affection for her husband were true.

No wonder she took his surname.

"Xiao Qiao, call me by my name," she said.

"Old Lady Liu."

"No, call me by my name."

"Liú Qiūshuāng," Qiao Xi remembered her name from the medical record.

"Ah."

Old Lady Liu's voice choked. "He was the one who gave me this name. He said it was elegant and feminine. He was Jingchun, and I was Qiūshuāng. It sounded like a perfect match."

Qiao Xi felt a lump in her throat, the emotion weighing heavily on her heart.

At the door of the room, soft sobs could be heard, uncontrollable.

Qiao Xi turned around and saw a well-dressed, elegant woman and a tall, well-off middle-aged man walking arm in arm, both of them emotionally distressed.

The beautiful woman, with red eyes, cried out, "Mom! You want to go home, we'll take you back."

Liu Huimin rushed to embrace the elderly lady. "I won't let you stay in the hospital anymore. I'll go back to my parental home and stay with you. I'll take you to the hospital for treatment and bring you back afterward."

"Hui Min, I miss your father."

The mother and daughter held each other, crying bitterly.

Qiao Xi saw this and quietly left the room.

"Dr. Qiao, right? I'm Xu Guangyao, and my mother-in-law is inside. We heard the situation was critical, and we thank you for saving her. We'll definitely reward you generously." The middle-aged man spoke politely but distantly.

His high and mighty attitude could still be felt in his tone.

"You're welcome. It's my duty," Qiao Xi said calmly. "Please make arrangements to have someone look after her."

"Okay."

Xu Guangyao felt she looked familiar and squinted his eyes, taking in her features.

Qiao Xi said what she needed to, then walked out.

As she passed the nurse's station, Nurse Shu Xue gave her a thumbs-up.

"Qiao Xi, you're amazing. If something bad had happened today, the Liu family is not someone to mess with." She came out from behind the nurse's desk and handed Qiao Xi an orange.

"You did half the work, thank you for helping me," Qiao Xi leaned against the wall and broke off half of the orange, handing it to her.

Shu Xue waved her hand dismissively. "It's nothing."

She leaned in closer to Qiao Xi and, in a gossiping tone, said, "That middle-aged couple who just entered the room are Xu Guangyao and Liu Huimin, our Director Xu Xiu Yuan's parents. Xu Guangyao was a poor guy who married Liu Huimin, the Liu family's precious jewel. It caused a stir in the whole city. With the Liu family's help, the Xu family became the new elite in Haicheng."

"You're so nosy," Qiao Xi said while eating the orange.

"There's more juicy gossip. Our Director Xu is known for being upright, dutiful to his elders, and doting on his younger siblings. His younger brother and sister are twins. His sister, the jewel of both the Liu and Xu families, used to visit him often at the hospital. She's really beautiful."

Shu Xue carefully examined Qiao Xi and said, "I think you and her look a little alike, but she's not as beautiful as you."

"Stop talking nonsense."

"You're the most beautiful in our rehabilitation department," Shu Xue pulled out a delicate gift box from the nurse's desk. "You left this behind when you were doing the emergency procedure. I thought it might get lost with so many people around, so I kept it for you."

"Thank you!"

Qiao Xi took the gift box and suddenly remembered.

This was a gift for Huo Xingzhou. She had seen his birth date on his ID.

"I'll go now."

In Room 2103

Liu Huimin fed medicine to the elderly woman. "Mom, do you think that Dr. Xiao Qiao looks like me? I didn't expect this kind of fate."

"It's fate," Old Lady Liu recalled the past. "Twenty-two years ago, you and the little maid in the house gave birth on the same day, that too was fate. Too bad her daughter didn't survive, and she disappeared afterward."

The words were said casually, but they had a deeper meaning.

Xu Guangyao stood aside, his eyes flickering nervously.

But he quickly regained his composure. He was confident that his concerns would not materialize. After all, back then, he had been very careful, leaving no traces.

He smiled as he held the water cup. "Mom, you still remember that after so many years?" He pretended to ask casually, "Is Dr. Qiao an orphan?"

"No, she has parents and family," Old Lady Liu replied, her feelings complicated. "She's the girl from the Su family who was married into the Huo family to bring good luck to the second branch, Huo Xingzhou's wife."

"It's her!" Liu Huimin was shocked.

And Xu Guangyao felt even more relieved.

There were so many people in the world who looked alike. There was no need to panic.

No one would ever know what he had done back then.
