Jin Kai squinted his eyes as he unfolded the list and began reading one name after another.
"Zhou Anbang, Hu Yuanshang…"
It felt like the death list from the underworld. Each name he called out sent chills down their spines, and cold sweat poured from their brows. Standing beside them were the burly drivers, Old Chen, ready to strike at a moment's notice.
In no time, the vast banquet hall was nearly empty, with only a dozen or so people left behind.
The atmosphere was freezing.
Jin Kai folded the list with a grin on his round face and said, "Mr. Huo, everyone's here."
"Mm."
Huo Xingzhou's gaze swept across the room before settling on a corner. "Sun Weimeng, come forward and identify them."
Sun Weimeng clenched his fists, his eyes red and moist with excitement. "Yes! Huo Xingzhou, I knew you wouldn't forget about your brother!"
His hand was still wrapped, his face bruised and battered, yet he laughed and cried, looking a bit disheveled.
"These are the ones who beat you?" Huo Xingzhou asked.
Sun Weimeng nodded vigorously. "Yes, yes! Except for that shorty He, everyone's here."
"You handle it yourself." Huo Xingzhou said coldly. "Jin Kai, stay here and keep watch."
"Thank you, Huo Xingzhou! I'll never say anything bad about you again—it's my own thoughts that were messed up!" Sun Weimeng was in awe of Huo Xingzhou. He felt like he would be willing to serve him for life.
Huo Xingzhou shot him a cold glance before turning to Qiao Xi. "Qiao Xi, let's go home."
"Alright."
Qiao Xi's eyes curved with joy. "Jiao Jiao and Mom have been waiting for a long time."
She pushed Huo Xingzhou's wheelchair as they made their way toward the door.
Sun Weimeng watched them leave and turned his attention back to the group of spoiled rich kids. He sneered a couple of times.
"Didn't expect old Sun Weimeng to have such a big backing, huh?"
He chuckled darkly. "Now, all of you, get down on your knees and stick your butts up!"
"Brother Sun! I didn't beat you, I just nudged you a bit."
"Sun Shao, I admit my mistake!"
They had only beaten Sun Weimeng because Huo Beiting had instructed them to. On normal days, they wouldn't dare touch him. After all, there's safety in numbers, and their families were just a little rich.
"Down!" Sun Weimeng commanded, playing the tyrant.
They dared not protest and could only humiliate themselves by getting down on all fours.
Sun Weimeng stood with his hands on his hips, puffing out his chest. "If you want to get out of this, just let me vent my anger, and then I'll let you go."
He kicked their behinds one by one with his feet.
Mrs. Sun stood by, watching with a complex expression. Her silly son had such good luck.
She never imagined what he had said was actually true. Huo Xingzhou really showed up, and not only that—he had turned the tide in his favor!
Her foolish son had always supported Huo Xingzhou, but who would have thought that Huo Xingzhou was also loyal and would actually stand up for him?
It looked like their Sun family was about to rise.
The night deepened, the sky dotted with stars.
Two cars stopped outside the small villa of the Huo family. Qiao Xi and Huo Xingzhou got out first, followed by the other three.
They floated through the evening air, feeling as though they were living in a dream.
The five of them entered the living room.
Huo Sijiao spoke first, "Mom, I want to go to the ENT department tomorrow. My ears have been ringing these past few days, and I keep hearing things."
"How could my brother be the founder of Tianyuan? The one from Tianyuan Group?" She was puzzled but couldn't suppress the excitement in her heart.
Du Juan reached out and gave her arm a sharp twist. "Does that hurt?"
"Ah! It hurts so much, this is real!" Huo Sijiao shouted, "My brother is the founder of Tianyuan Group!"
"Stop shouting, you're disturbing the peace."
Du Juan wasn't as calm as she appeared. Despite her age, a lot of her emotions were still bottled up inside.
When she first received Jiao Jiao's call saying that her son was going to disrupt the old man's birthday party, she and her husband rushed back, ready to clean up the mess.
But they never expected it to turn into this kind of "mess."
"Sis-in-law, can you tell me again? Is this really true?" Huo Sijiao eagerly took both of Qiao Xi's hands, spinning around.
Qiao Xi nodded firmly. "It's true!"
It was all true.
Du Juan's eyes turned red as she wiped away her tears.
She looked at Huo Xingzhou, who was sitting calmly in his wheelchair, and softly said, "You must have had a hard time. Why didn't you ever tell us?"
Others saw his glory, but only his family understood the hardships and struggles behind it.
No one knew how much he had sacrificed to get to where he was today.
Her voice caught in her throat, and she bent down to hug Huo Xingzhou, crying out loud.
Huo Xingzhou gently patted her back. "It wasn't hard. I'm fine."
"Brother's lying!" Huo Sijiao choked out.
Qiao Xi looked at his handsome face, feeling her throat tighten, and before she knew it, tears started to fall.
The three women were all crying like tears themselves.
Huo Jiancheng stood awkwardly, his own tears falling.
Aunt Qian brought in tea, having already heard the news. She smiled and said, "This is a good thing. Why are we crying?"
"Right, no need to cry!"
Du Juan wiped her tears and forced a smile.
"Stop crying now." She grabbed a tissue and wiped the tears from Huo Sijiao and Qiao Xi's faces. Suddenly, she laughed. "I need to take a call. It's been nonstop tonight."
The ladies who had once looked down on her were now calling to flatter her.
Her vanity was being fully satisfied.
Huo Jiancheng had a strange look in his eyes as he glanced at Huo Xingzhou's legs. Had he just seen an illusion?
He spoke up. "It's been a long day. Why don't we head back and let Qiao Xi and Xingzhou rest?"
"Mm."
"Jiao Jiao," Qiao Xi said as they were about to leave, "I brought some medicinal wine from the countryside for you. Let me give you some to help with your health."
Huo Sijiao eagerly said, "Sis-in-law, I know where it is, I'll go get it!"
In a short while, Huo Sijiao returned with two bottles of medicinal wine and walked out of the villa with her parents, getting into the car.
On the way back.
Du Juan took a call after call, opened the car window, and let out a long breath.
She said, "After coming back from the countryside, I see that Xingzhou's health has improved a lot."
Huo Jiancheng quickly asked, "Did he find that national doctor Cheng Han?" He had just noticed that his legs had moved earlier, but didn't mention it.
He had other thoughts in mind.
Du Juan turned to him, exchanging a look, and said, "Who else do you think has taken care of him for so long, besides Cheng Han?"
She was already 99% sure. Huo Jiancheng had been with her for many years, and he knew exactly what she meant.
"It can't be." He murmured.
He didn't dare to think it!
But if his son could silently become the founder of Tianyuan Group, then what was impossible?
Huo Sijiao didn't understand what they were talking about. She just rolled the car window down and giggled, thinking about something.
Du Juan gave her a playful slap on the head. "What are you dreaming about?"
Huo Sijiao pressed her voice low and whispered in her ear, "Sis-in-law told me tonight we're going to… so I made some plans."
Du Juan's face darkened. "You little brat! Your brother's infertile. How could he do that kind of thing!"
Huo Sijiao puffed out her cheeks. "Even if he can't do it properly, I can't leave any room for someone else!"
Du Juan knew exactly who she was talking about and just nodded in agreement.
Tonight, it seemed, Qiao Xi was in for a rough time.
