Morning Tensions

The sun peeked through the curtains, waking Delphinia from her not-so-great night of sleep. She blinked a few times, her vision adjusting, before realizing exactly where she was.

Evander's room.

Her body tensed as if shocked by electricity. She slowly turned her head and found him still asleep, the blanket rising and falling in rhythm with his steady breathing. There he was, sleeping like a baby, totally unaware of how much he'd messed with her head.

She stared for a moment, debating if she could tiptoe out without waking him. Deciding not to take any chances, she swung her legs over the edge of the bed as carefully as possible. Her feet hit the cool floor, and she froze, glancing back at Evander. He didn't stir.

Good.

She stood, smoothing down her clothes, and hurried to the door with all the urgency of someone escaping a crime scene. Only when she was safely out in the hallway did she release a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding.
