Ashton left his lunch untouched, his gaze fixed blankly ahead while his friend kept talking.
"Oh," Liam began, his voice lowered to a conspiratorial whisper as he leaned in. "But do you guys know how parents make babies?"
The group fell silent for a moment, wide eyes darting around. The topic was one they hadn't openly discussed before, and the idea seemed both thrilling and mysterious.
"I know!" Olivia said, raising her hand like she was in class. Her pink-ribboned pigtails bounced as she spoke "They buy them at the baby shop."
Daniel snorted loudly, shaking his head. "That's not true, Olivia. My mom told me there's no such thing as a baby shop. Babies come from hospitals."
"Well, duh," Olivia shot back, crossing her arms. "But where do the hospitals get the babies? They have to buy them from the baby shop!"
