The scent of freshly brewed coffee lingered in the air, but its warmth did little to ease the tension that had settled deep in Evander's shoulders.
Hugo leaned against the desk, arms crossed, watching his boss with an expression that wavered between amusement and disbelief. "I can't believe you actually told Lydia she could meet Ashton." His eyes narrowing slightly. "Who are you, and what have you done with the Evander Walton I know?"
Evander exhaled, pinching the bridge of his nose before leaning back in his chair. His expression remained unreadable, but the subtle twitch of his jaw betrayed his internal conflict. "I can't believe it either." He let out a tired chuckle, shaking his head. "But after hearing what Delphinia had to say… I think it's the best decision."
