As soon as Delphinia stepped through the grand entrance of the Walton estate, she froze in surprise. Sitting elegantly on the couch in the living room was none other than Elaine Walton, her mother-in-law. The older woman had an air of effortless grace, her legs crossed at the ankles, a delicate china teacup resting between her fingers. She looked completely at ease, as though she had been waiting for Delphinia for quite some time.
Delphinia's heart skipped a beat. She quickly straightened her posture and walked forward, trying to suppress the sudden wave of nervousness washing over her.
"Mrs. Walton," she greeted, her voice polite yet uncertain. "I wasn't expecting you."
Elaine's eyes flicked up from her tea, amusement dancing in them. "Delphinia, dear, haven't we already agreed to call each other by our first names?"
