Evander's gaze dropped to the cheque resting on the white linen tablecloth. The crisp paper, stark against the muted tones of the restaurant, bore an amount that might make most people waver. But for Evander, it was nothing more than a shallow attempt at persuasion.
He lifted the paper between two fingers, his cold, calculating eyes scanning the numbers before letting out a soft chuckle. The sound, low and mocking, cut through the heavy silence. "Bribery, huh?" Evander mused, tilting his head slightly as he eyed Kai. "You really pulled out your last resort."
Kai forced a grin, though the corners of his mouth twitched, betraying his irritation. "I thought it was a generous offer."
