The List

Evander sat behind his large desk, fingers tapping rhythmically on the smooth surface. Papers were neatly stacked in front of him, and the screen of his laptop glowed faintly. The view from the wide glass windows behind him showed the bustling city skyline, but Evander's mind was elsewhere.

No matter how much he tried to focus on work, his thoughts kept circling back to Delphinia.

The image of her at hospital yesterday still haunted him. Even though the doctor assured him it was just fatigue, his jaw clenched as he recalled how fragile she looked. He hated seeing her like that. The woman who had always been so strong, so full of quiet determination, now reduced to weakness.

He sighed heavily, leaning back in his chair. He closed his eyes for a brief second, trying to shake off the anxiety. Yet, the knot in his chest refused to loosen.

A knock echoed through the office, breaking the silence.
