Chapter 11

Throughout his speech, the guests had their attention fixated on William Turner. As a good public speaker, he had his way when addressing every crowd and tonight, he was doing yet another great job.

Meanwhile, the guests William invited to the party comprised of singers, composers, producers, directors, actors, and other entertainers within the city. They were all celebrities and each of them dazzled in the finest designers and Jewelries. Each guest was allowed to come along with a date.

"I wish you all a wonderful evening," William concluded his speech and stepped down from the stage.

The crowd gave him a standing ovation while cheers and applause reigned.

As he made his way toward his table, he was intercepted by a group of people from the audience who had hurried to meet him. While some were forcing their way toward him to congratulate him for acquiring the White Moon company, others wanted the opportunity to formally meet him.

All the people in the hall had a deep conviction that White Moon Company was now the entertainment company to beat because William Turner was considered one of the richest men in the city so all the invited artists were viewing to secure a spot in the new company.

Immediately after his speech ended, Elisa had also left her seat to meet William but she was unlucky like other guests. Before she could reach William, he was already surrounded by a group of guests, and in a matter of seconds, he was out of reach.

She turned around with a frustrated sigh and was about to head back to her table when she noticed Alex at the bar stand, sipping from a glass. Elisa hummed and began taking steps toward him.

Alex was about to drop his glass on the table when he saw a figure towering above him. He turned around and saw Elisa standing beside him with her lips curled up in irritation.

"What are you doing here?" She spat.

Alex arched a brow and dumped his glass on the table. "Shouldn't I be asking you the same question? The last time I checked, you're the one invading my space."

"Your space?" Elisa giggled and shook her head. "You should be working with the rest of the bartenders here not relaxing or are you off duty tonight?"

"I'm not a bartender," Alex replied and reached for his glass. At that point, he had enough of her ridiculous comments.

Elisa folded her arms across her chest and looked him in the eyes. "Really?"

He sighed.

"You know what Alex, I understand if you are depressed. I mean, anyone in your position is bound to be mentally unstable. You have your grandma's demise to deal with and there's our divorce on the other end so I understand your situation. You don't have to pretend. Just get up and work."

Alex shook his head. If only Elisa would leave him alone he thought and looked away, determined not to engage her in any banter.

Elisa wasn't done yet.

"This is your new life now so the better you learn to embrace it, the better things will turn out for you. You used to enjoy the privileges of my family, the Sanders but now that we are no longer together as a couple, it's obvious those privileges will cease to exist so do yourself a favor. Get rid of your pride and work hard. Remember, you've got no one so running two jobs will do you good."

Alex turned to Elisa with his fists tightened. "Are you dumb?"

She gasped.

"What the fuck is wrong with you?" he flared up and tossed his glass to the side, causing the glass to spill some content on the table. "What makes you think I'm a waiter or a bartender here?"

Elisa gave her forehead a mild scrape. "Well, you couldn't have…

"Been invited here right?" Alex fired back. "You think I'm a nobody who doesn't deserve to be here. Don't you?"

Elisa cleared her throat loudly. "It's not about who you are or what you deserve Alex. Stop protecting your poor dignity. We both know that you weren't invited here and none of the guests picked you as a date so you can only be here if you're one of the workers."

"You're impossible," Alex replied and reached for his glass.

"I'm not impossible. I'm just telling you the darn truth." Elisa protested.

Alex threw his head backward and gulped his glass.

"Oh come on Alex. Don't be pathetic. Times have changed and so is your fate. You shouldn't waste time drinking here. Get your ass up and work. That salary you earn as a doctor won't cover your expenses now that you've lost all your privileges. Don't be childish."

Alex realized that the more he responded to Elisa, the more she was bent on hurling insults at him so he ignored her like a plaque and continued drinking but she wouldn't let him be until a voice came on.

"What's going on here?"

When Alex turned toward the voice, he saw Mark emanating from a corner.

Mark hastened his steps and Elisa quickly rushed toward him.

"I need a glass of red wine," Mark told Alex after reaching the bar stand.

Alex didn't look at him. Instead, he pulled out his phone and began to scroll through some news feeds.

"Are you kidding me?" Demanded a pissed Mark. "I said I need a drink. Don't just sit there like a loser. Get up and do your job,"

Alex didn't utter a word.

"Do you want me to report you to your superior?" Threatened Mark.

Alex turned to Mark with a quirked brow. First, he assumed that he was a waiter simply because he was present at the hall and now, Mark wants to report him when he can't prove that he's a bartender there. He decided not to engage the dumb Mark.

Alex stood up.

"Is he going to walk out on me?" Mark spat with his hands on his hips.

"Crappy insolence!" Elisa replied.

Alex was about to take a step away from them when someone spoke. It was a feminine voice.

"Hi, Alex!"

They all turned around.

Dianna Lampton was standing in a corner, smiling at Alex.
