A Thread of suspicion

The space was sterile and orderly, with rows of files labeled. Lena scanned the area, her eyes searching for any anomaly. Her fingers trailed along the cold metal shelves, stopping at the exact spot where the laptop had been.

"Looking for something?" a voice interrupted, startling her.

Lena spun around to see Reed standing in the doorway, his expression neutral but his presence unnerving.

"Reed," what are you doing here?" She said, masking her surprise.

He held up a file.

"Needed to pull some old records for a client. What about you?" Reed said.

"Just following up on some discrepancies from the other night. You've heard about the breach?" Lena said, hesitating.

"Of course. Everyone's on edge. Do you think it's someone internal?" Reed said, his brow furrowed.

The question felt like a trap, but Lena kept her composure. "That's what we're trying to figure out. Whoever it is, they're covering their tracks well." Lena said.
