The trip back home was suffocating.

Natasha sat as far from him as possible, her arms crossed tight over her chest, her gaze locked out the window. She hadn't said a word since they left. Hadn't looked at him once.

And Drogen felt every single second of it like a knife in his ribs.

He shouldn't have kissed her back that night. Because now? Now she was avoiding him like the plague.

Like she regretted it.

Something ugly curled in his chest at the thought.

Was it a mistake to her? Did she think he was someone else? Someone she actually wanted?

The thought festered, burned. Before he could stop himself, the words were already out.

"Do you have a boyfriend?"

Natasha flinched.

Her head snapped toward him, eyes wide with something he couldn't place. Shock? Guilt? Panic?

"What?" she blurted.

Drogen kept his eyes on the road, but his grip on the steering wheel tightened.
