Sotimes later, the beasts came out, sneering and looking down at the 'preys', Liam just smiled, the air becoming glacial. If one looked closely, they would immediatly notice that it wasn't the tension, but the ice power of Liam at work.
David backed away, a smirk playing on his lips, at his side, their new addition, the poor man was trembling of terror and cold.
"Your name?"
The young man answered, "Caleb".
"I'm David Nowey and the man saving your arse right about now is my future husband, Liam Posvenski."
Caleb looked between David and Liam, his eyes wide with a mix of fear and confusion.
"Future husband?" he stammered, glancing nervously back at the encroaching shadows of the beasts lurking in the underbrush.
"Yes," David said, amusement painting his features. "Love blooms even in the darkest times, Caleb. You might want to focus on staying alive rather than pondering our romantic entanglements, though." His tone laced with pure amusement.
Liam, feeling the chill of his power ebbing and flowing around him, looked back at the duo. "Caleb," Liam said, his voice steady, "I'm going to deal with them but you listen to David, or else."
Caleb nodded, swallowing hard as the growls of the beasts grew louder, echoing through the trees like sinister whispers.
"I-I can help, Iknow how to fight," he said, a tremor in his voice but a hint of determination flickering in his eyes.
David raised an eyebrow, skepticism coating his words. "How do you plan to help him? With a blade?" His expression shifted to one of playful mockery. "Stay near; He has everything under control, but if he ever needs helps, I'm here anyway."
Liam felt a pulse of power radiate from him, coursing through his veins, experience let him knows that, his power wasn't complete yet, he'll tread carefuly.
As if in response, a grotesque figure pushed its way through the shadows. The beast was large, its sinewy body glistening with damp fur and its eyes gleaming with an insatiable hunger. It looked like both a wolf and something far worse—a monstrous fusion of predatory instincts.
Another growl reverberated from the depths of the forest, signaling that more were near. He focused on the lead creature, letting his energy flow outwards like tendrils of frost, creating a barrier to slow its advance.
At the back, David created a contract, the words shifting into a shield.
The air thickened with tension, the weight of the approaching beasts casting a treacherous pall over the trio. A low growl erupted—another beast entered the fray, eyes glinting with predatory intent.
Liam's control intensified, ice spiraling into sharp needles that hovered near his palm, ready for an assault. David assessed the situation, his eyes shining an unnatural golden color.
Liam pushed forth his icy barrier, creating a swirling storm blinding the nearest beasts momentarily. A gust of icy air billowing outwards followed next, stunning the creatures. If they didn't act fast, the momentary distraction would wear off.
Liam darted to the left, taking advantage of the disorientation. Caleb swallowed thickly, adrenaline flooding his system.
They watched as Liam took down the first beast with a swift slash to its throat, blood pooling into the fertile earth as it collapsed.
The second one snarled, lunging in retaliation, but Liam was ready. He thrust out his palm, unleashing a wave of frigid air that encased the beast's limbs in ice, halting its advance.
Liam charged forward, his knife finding purchase in the creature's side. He was calm and assured, because David had his back.
Caleb watched as Liam fighted gracefully and David protected them. Each slash and thrust rendered the foes to the earth, each moment more exhilarating.
When the last beast fell, silence engulfed them, heavy and cold.
Liam breathed heavily, power pulsing in his veins. "And voilà," he breathed, looking from David to Caleb, smile on his lips.
David grinned, kissing the blond. "Now what did I say?"
Caleb laughed shakily, relief washing and awe over him. "I didn't expect that—"
"And that's exactly why you will do what we say from now on," Liam interrupted, a dark grin on his lips. "And remember, if you decide to betray us… I have ways to ensure our safety that among over things."
David gave him a peck. "Don't scare him too much. He might start to think making a deal with us wasn't worth it. We can say goodbye to our trip to the river by the way."
The sun broke through the canopy, bathing them in light for a brief moment.
"Let's head back to the cabin," Liam said. " I'll freeze them for the night beside, we have a lot to discuss, mister."
