Kai a regular detective was killed by his partner after he uncovered the case he had been following for years now.

Kai tilted his head slightly, letting his gaze linger on the man's face. His heart rate didn't spike; his breathing remained steady. He could feel the Nemesis System humming at the edge of his consciousness.

At that moment the two other guards shifted uneasily behind the speaker, clearly wary of Kai's stillness.

"Look, buddy, rules are rules," one of them muttered. "No card, no entry. No exceptions."

Kai's lips curled into a faint smile beneath his mask.

This was the first barrier, but it wouldn't stop him. He knew the kind of people these men worked for.

They valued power, confidence, and a lack of hesitation. He'd have to show all three if he wanted to get inside.

Still, he didn't move. He didn't speak. He just let the moment hang in the air like a storm about to break.

At that moment Kai gaze around wanting to be sure the men he was looking for were around.
