At that moment Kai turned to Leilani and greeted her warmly, his voice steady but laced with gratitude.

"Thank you too, for letting me stay with you," he said, nodding slightly. "I'll find a way to rebuild the other place as soon as possible."

However Before Leilani could respond, Sam came out of his room pretending as if he was going outside.

His voice cut in sharply from the corner of the room.

"Of course you should," he snapped, folding his arms across his chest. His tone was biting, each word dripping with resentment. "It was you that caused the damage, so you're the one who ought to fix it. And you better be fast because we're not going to let you stay here for long."

At that moment Leilani's eyes flicked to Sam, a frown settling on her face. "Sam," she said, her voice low with warning, "that's enough."

Kai, however, didn't flinch. He turned to face Sam, his calm demeanor unshaken by the boy's hostility.
