However the Mayor froze, the phone slipping from his hand and landing with a dull thud on the floor.

His eyes widened in disbelief as he turned slowly to face Kai, who stood in the shadows of the dimly lit living room, his gun trained steadily at the Mayor's head.

"How... how the hell did you get in here?" the Mayor stammered, his voice trembling as much as his hands.

"I've had this place locked down tighter than Fort Knox since the incident."

At that moment Kai smirked, stepping forward into the light, the gleam of his gun unmistakable. "Your security? Pathetic. They were more interested in their phones than watching the cameras. And honestly, sneaking past them was easier than I expected. But let's not waste time on details." His tone was calm, but there was an underlying menace that sent a chill down the Mayor's spine.
