The Chief's finger trembled slightly as he holstered his gun.
Turning his back on Kai, he muttered to his men, "Clean this mess up."
Then a voice, calm and cutting like a blade through silence, echoed behind him.
"You thought that would work?"
Immediately the Chief froze mid-step. Slowly, he turned around, his face pale as he saw Kai standing there, holding the bullet between his fingers.
The crowd of officers and the Mayor stared in disbelief, their expressions a mixture of horror and confusion.
They couldn't believe what they just said.
Kai's voice dripped with quiet menace. "You actually thought I'd trust a den of corruption to handle justice? I came prepared."
At that moment the Chief's composure cracked. Panic flared in his eyes as he drew his gun again and fired rapidly, each shot ringing out in quick succession.
