At that moment the chief's face twisted with rage as Kai held his phone. His breath was heavy, his swollen lips trembling as he barked out, "You're in trouble, Kai! You have no idea what you've just done!"
However Kai remained calm, flipping the phone lazily between his fingers. His expression was unreadable, but his eyes were sharp, studying every micro-reaction from the chief.
The older man struggled against the ropes, his voice laced with something between anger and desperation.
"If you do this, if you make that call, you'd better be ready to kill me first—because if you don't, they will come for you before I do."
Kai tilted his head slightly, a smirk forming on his lips.
"They?" he echoed.
The chief's mouth snapped shut. That was all Kai needed.
Then he leaned forward, voice smooth but laced with an underlying menace.
"So you are corrupt," Kai said. "You just admitted it."
