Amelia slowly stirred awake, rubbing her eyes as the world around her came into focus. The first thing she saw was Dawson, sitting beside her, staring down at her with a soft smile.
She smiled back, her voice still a little sleepy. "Good morning."
Dawson's smile widened. "Good morning, princess."
He reached out, gently helping her sit up. His eyes lingered on her face for a moment before he spoke again. "Amelia…" He hesitated for a second before continuing. "What about your family?"
At his question, Amelia's smile faded. She looked down, her fingers lightly gripping the bedsheet. Silence filled the room.
Dawson noticed the sadness in her eyes and immediately regretted asking. He reached for her hands, holding them gently. "I'm sorry," he said softly. "I shouldn't have asked something so heavy this early in the morning."
