Chapter 6 The Wife in Poverty (6)

Chen Jin hadn't expected that when Su Li said she wouldn't care, she really wouldn't care about anything.

Aside from the specific children's meals for Dou Dou and Ya Ya, she didn't even cook.

Chen Jin was overwhelmed by a series of sudden domestic trifles, but finally, with Liu Yin running up and down to help, they managed to get everything done by the deadline.

"Xiao Yin, I really appreciate your help these past few days...."

"If you want to thank me, then treat me to a meal," Liu Yin blurted out what was on her mind.

Chen Jin smiled and said, "It's only right."

He thought to himself that the recently opened, outrageously expensive private kitchen restaurant would be nice.

Liu Yin's eyes twinkled mischievously, and she cocked her head, gazing eagerly at Chen Jin, "Well, if it's my treat, then today I'm calling the shots..."

You wouldn't know it from how casually Liu Yin spoke, but if you listened closely, you could detect the hidden nervousness and unease in her voice.

"Sure, you're the hero, so you decide."

What Chen Jin didn't expect was that Liu Yin would actually drag him to the food market.

"What is this…"

"The food outside is expensive and tastes bad, not to mention, your stomach isn't great..." Liu Yin said, stealing glances at Chen Jin the whole time.

Such bold and unsubtle looks set Chen Jin on fire from head to toe.

In their continuous interactions, Chen Jin wasn't oblivious to Liu Yin's subtle feelings for him, it's just that....

He could only wryly smile, unable to speak the words of warning he had, since he knew the girl was shy and he feared making her uncomfortable by candidly addressing the issue.

Yes, that's how it was.

But besides this concern, whether Chen Jin had other thoughts in his heart, only he knew.

"Dudu...."

The phone's ringtone went off.

Chen Jin glanced at his phone screen, turned his back, and signaled Liu Yin with a gesture, "I'm going to take a call."

Liu Yin bit her lip, her fingers twirling nervously, her gaze full of reluctance. However, she could only stamp her foot and walked toward a fresh produce stall not far away.

She had seen it just now.

The caller ID showed "Dear Wife"...

Chen Jin's wife... she hadn't met her yet...

But from her perspective, having never heard Chen Jin utter a word about his wife, it wasn't hard to guess that the latter was either not presentable or a plain Jane.

Indeed, not many housewives, stuck at home with kids, a husband, and the stove, and cut off from society, could be considered outstanding.

Men, especially successful ones, always needed an "understanding flower" by their side.

Thinking like this, Liu Yin felt a lot better.

The image of the plain Jane wife took shape in her mind, and she couldn't help but laugh out loud.

Su Li, dressed in a tender yellow dress and a pair of little white shoes, with a light yellow straw hat atop her head, stood on a street corner holding over a dozen skewers, eating with delight.

Whispers were swirling around her, which Su Li chose to ignore, focusing solely on demolishing the food in her hands one skewer after another.

"You go...."

"No, you go...."

Nearby, in front of a bohemian milk tea shop, stood three handsome young men.

They were shoving each other around, their eyes glued to Su Li.

Their reaction was not surprising, given Su Li's extraordinary beauty.

Her getup today made her look like an innocent and lovely university belle in her early twenties, one would never guess she was actually over thirty and a mother of two.

No wonder these youths, in the bloom of spring, were so heart-fluttering.

The skewer place Su Li had found wasn't well-situated, but its taste was irresistible, and she had spent quite a while looking it up online before she found it.

The position she found herself in was right across from the corner of a vegetable market.

Coincidentally, Chen Jin's conspicuous Mercedes-Benz drove by and caught her eye.

Chen Jin, with his crisp suit, made it hard to associate him with this noisy and chaotic setting.

However, Su Li's reaction with her hands was quicker than her mind's.

She rapidly finished the skewer in her hand, wiped her hands and face, then took out her phone and started snapping pictures of the all-too-familiar Mercedes-Benz like mad.

As expected, the woman getting out of the passenger side and their intimate interaction...

It all happened so early.

After taking the photos, Su Li casually made a phone call to Chen Jin.

"Where are you?"

--------------------------------

Chen Jin, the keenly responsive urban elite, immediately looked up and around as soon as the phone call ended.

But his tone was steady, "A colleague at work did me a small favor, so I agreed to a small request of hers."

"What request?"

Su Li toyed with her fingernails, yet her tone seemed insistent on digging deeper.

Chen Jin wasn't used to the way Su Li was treating him now; glancing at Liu Yin not far away selecting seafood, he said with a forced calm, "I'll tell you when I get back."

"The kids behaving at home?"

"Tch... they're fine..."

"You forgot, today Doudou went to kindergarten and Yaya attended her early education class."

Chen Jin's temple throbbed with a raised vein as Su Li's snicker came through to his eardrum, crystal clear.

"Oh, then I forgot. I've been so busy lately...my mind's in chaos. You'll have to handle more at home, I'll make it up to you later, honey."

For once, Chen Jin actually praised Su Li's contribution to the family.

Su Li couldn't help thinking sarcastically that it's no wonder people say when a man suddenly turns soft on you, it's because he has or is planning to do something to hurt you.

This was merely compensation for his guilt...

"Alright, let's leave it at that, so as not to disturb your work."

Until the phone clicked with the sound of disconnection, Chen Jin stayed put, unmoved.

He didn't like Su Li's current attitude.

Nor did he know what had prompted her change.

Taking a deep breath, Chen Jin decided he must have a serious talk with Su Li in the evening.

Sadly, his plans were good, but he never got the chance to carry them out.

-----------------

"Finished with the call? Then come over here and look, these lobsters are so big, should I choose this one or that one?"

Seeing Chen Jin put down the phone with a troubled expression, Liu Yin pretended not to notice and cheerfully pulled him over, holding up a big lobster in one hand for him to see.

Chen Jin glanced at it absentmindedly, "Any of them is fine..."

His indifferent answer displeased Liu Yin.

But she still knew to succeed, you must not rush things.

Liu Yin, feeling dejected, placed the lobster down and said quietly with a lowered voice, "Do you have some urgent matter to deal with?"

"Then you should go take care of it... otherwise, thank me some other time..."

Chen Jin watched the insincerity of the young girl before him, his eyes flickered, and steadied his thoughts, speaking softly, "Nothing urgent, and I've already made you a promise..."

"I can't break my word... Otherwise, how can I maintain my credibility as your boss in the future..."

Hearing her own words echoed, the young girl's eyes lit up with stars, and Chen Jin's mood improved just a bit.
