"You have to text me everyday." Aria said to Vee. Vee and her mother were moving to Georgia right after the divorce got finalized. Aria's mom drove them to the airport, because Vee's mother already drove her car to Georgia a week ago with the moving company who helped moved their things, this gave Aria and Vee time to spend together because Vee was staying with them during her mother's absence.
"Okay, I will." Vee said to Aria smiling. Honestly, Aria made it all easier. She felt better after spending time her.
"Thanks for driving us Susan." Claire said.
"You don't have to thank me for everything Claire." Susan told her.
"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. This is the pre- boarding announcement for FlightDL1425 with service to Georgia." An announcer said over the airport speakers.
"Well, that's our call. Thanks for the past few days. I wish we had more time together."Claire said to Susan.
"You can call me,I'll be ready to talk anytime." she replied and they hugged each other.
"Girls, say your good byes." Susan said.
Aria threw her arms around Violet, squeezing her tightly. "I'm going to miss you so much,' she whispered but her voice was muffled by Vee's shoulder.
Vee clung to her best friend. The ride to the airport had been filled with forced cheerfulness, neither of them wanted to face the reality, in few minutes they'd soon be separated by over 2,000 miles. They had been in separable since they were kids.
"Ill miss you more" Vee managed to say. Her words couldn't even come out properly.
"If you don't text me everyday, I'm flying over to give you a beating." Aria said. Vee smiled, she knew her best friend was about to cry, that's why she was making up threats.
"You know I can't spend a day without having to annoy you." Vee replied.
"You two are going to make me cry, come here Vee." Susan said and pulled Vee in for a warm hug. When the hug ended "Thanks for everything, for taking care of me for the past few weeks." Vee said to her.
"You and your mum sure do thank people a lot." she said to Vee.
They all hugged for the last time and bid themselves goodbye.
Vee and her mum joined the security line, which was already quite long. She looked at her mum and saw the sadness in her eyes. She hadn't consoled her at all, not because she didn't want to but because she didn't know what to say. Her mum had always been the one to do the consoling whenever something happened, and the only person who could console her was the cause of her distress. She quickly brushed off the thought of her father. She thought about how her new life was going to be. Her only friend was Aria, it was always the both of them against the world. Now they both had no one.
As soon as they concluded their security check she slumped on a chair and closed her eyes. She opened her eyes when the aroma something hit her nose.
"Have it." her mum said and stretched her a hot dog and a bottle of orange juice. She sat up and collected it.
"Thanks." she said and started eating. She was halfway done when she found her mom staring at her face.
"Is something wrong?" She asked.
"You have mustard on your face." Her mum replied.
"Where?" She asked. Her mum pointed to it ,she tried to clean it but kept missing and when she eventually got the spot she spread the mustard. Her mum burst out in laughter.
"What?" She asked looking confused.
" You spread it." Her mum said still laughing. She quickly used her phone's camera to check her face, when she saw her face she started laughing too. She took a bit of it and put it on her mum's face too.
"Now I'm not the only funny looking one." She said and they both started laughing. Her mom got a piece of tissue and wiped the mustard off Vee.
"Let me get yours." she said and helped her mom.
"Thank you." Her mom mouthed to her after she helped her cleaned the mustard off her face.
They both kept quiet until her phone buzzed. It was a text from Aria.
Twinnem: You on the plane yet?
Vee: No. But we'll leave soon.
Twinnem: Aight. TTYL
Vee: Take care love.
Twinnem: Don't forget to talk to your mom, you're the only one she has now Very. Being distant isn't going to do you both any good.
Vee: I will, I promise. Thank you for everything.
Twinnem: muahh.
She read the last text and turned off her phone and sighed. The final announcement for their flight. She grabbed her luggage and followed her mum to the jet bridge.
As the plane ascended into the sky, Violet looked out the window at the sprawling city below. It wasn't just a view—it was her home, the place where she'd grown up, where her best memories were rooted.
Aria's face flashed in her mind, and for a moment, she felt an overwhelming urge to cry. She didn't know what Georgia would bring, but at least she had a piece of home to carry with her—Aria's unwavering friendship.
As the plane broke through the clouds, Vee leaned back in her seat. For the first time, she let herself imagine that maybe, just maybe, she could find a way to make this new place feel like something close to home.
She knew she had to embrace it, she didn't have a choice. She had to for her mum's sake. At least her mother chose her, so she'd get through for her.
