This place marked the final destination in the first phase of Novak's meticulously laid plan since his rebirth in the apocalypse.
It was a terrifying location, so fearsome that even Zogwort—an extraordinary being—dared not set foot there. Traversing it was nearly impossible, and within its depths, even the mighty powers of the gods would be drastically suppressed.
In this endless abyss, countless horrific creatures and unknown entities lay in wait. If one were to name the most fearsome place across all realms, this abyss would undoubtedly claim the top rank—or perhaps even the first. Such was its danger.
This was a realm where demons were born, where they fought ceaselessly, growing stronger through bloodshed and relentless combat. Conflict and carnage were its eternal law.
The dark teleportation array made Yuzuru and Kaguya recoil, too terrified to approach. Meanwhile, Novak had already vanished into the ominous darkness, leaving behind the villa on the outskirts of the D-avao capital city, now engulfed by the energy of the teleportation array.
Now, beneath a blood-red sky fused with the pitch-black earth, Novak found himself in a world that was truly a domain of death—a place of doom that humanity had learned to fear.
Slowly, Novak opened his eyes. The familiarity of the landscape before him brought no sense of comfort, and he made no immediate move.
The Abyss followed its own set of unique rules.
Even the omnipotent Cosmic Will had a diminished influence here, almost negligible. This was evident in the weak connection to the chat group and the painfully slow refresh rate of the forum. The sheer isolation and terror of this realm were impossible to ignore.
The Abyss was a place where demons were born and thrived.
Legends spoke of the countless layers within the Abyss, and not even the gods knew the exact number. What was certain, however, was that the deeper one ventured, the more horrifying the abyssal landscape became, and the more powerful the demons that inhabited it grew.
Fortunately, Novak was only on the first layer of the Abyss.
At this level, no particularly powerful demons roamed, and those who aimed to transcend beyond level 20 would undergo a transformation in the Well of the Abyss, a baptism that allowed them to move to the next layer, where they would continue to battle and evolve.
The Well of the Abyss was the oldest structure in this forsaken realm.
Zogwort himself had speculated that the Well of the Abyss was the essence of the abyss, the very embodiment of its dark will. After the death of countless demons, the will of the abyss would gather the corpses that had not been consumed, storing them within the well. Then, at regular intervals, the Well of the Abyss would release a fresh batch of demon eggs.
From these eggs, countless young demons would emerge, fighting once again to grow and evolve, a cycle that repeated endlessly.
It was within this Well of the Abyss that Novak had previously glimpsed an opportunity—an SSS-class career transfer. The mere sight of that profession's name had sent chills down his spine.
Now, thinking of that powerful profession, Novak's eyes sharpened with determination.
In the world of black and red before him, a creeping blanket of the Blacklight Virus seemed to pulse, spreading through the landscape.
Suddenly, Novak's gaze was drawn to the farthest point of the horizon—where a mountain loomed.
On this first layer of the Abyss, the mountain stood as the most conspicuous feature at the center of the realm. Despite being little more than a hill, its significance could not be overstated.
As if sensing Novak's attention, the peak of the mountain suddenly flared with a burst of black and red light.
A crimson light erupted, nearly illuminating the entire first floor of the Abyss. Simultaneously, beams of light shot out in all directions.
Novak was momentarily startled, but quickly understood the coincidence of his arrival. It was almost as if he had spoken the devil's name, and it had appeared—the Well of the Abyss on the first floor was erupting right before his eyes!
Specks of light, like droplets of rain, descended across the entire first floor of the Abyss. Given the relatively modest size of this first layer, being the very entrance to the Abyss, the beams of light fell within close proximity to Novak.
In an instant, Novak's form shifted, and he advanced swiftly towards a group of demon eggs that had landed right in front of him. The eggs quivered slightly, as though life was about to emerge.
However, before these newborn demons could even glimpse the outside world, they were completely enveloped by a series of black tendrils and creeping red-black tentacles.
The mass of black and red tendrils pulsated with life, constantly shifting and moving.
The nutritive value of the demon eggs appeared in his eyes.
[Devour special species, gain exclusive evolution points for the Blacklight Virus: 2 points.]
[Devour special species: the Blacklight Virus detects a unique bloodline within this species. You may choose to absorb the bloodline or expel it from your body.]
Although these particular eggs only provided two evolution points, they posed no resistance, allowing Novak to also extract the demon's blood—a satisfying gain.
Unfortunately, without a new class transfer, Novak's Blacklight Virus abilities had reached their current limit. Absorbing more essence would only serve to purify bloodlines, and any additional evolution points would simply accumulate, awaiting future upgrades.
With this in mind, Novak turned his attention away from the demon eggs still raining from the sky.
His gaze was now fixed on the distant mountain peak—the core of the first layer of the Abyss.
The "Well of the Abyss"—a structure that spanned the entire Abyss.
Even though the first layer wasn't vast, there were still hundreds of miles between Novak and his destination.
Under normal circumstances, covering this distance would pose no issue for someone of his speed. However, this was the Abyss.
Traversing such a distance here meant facing countless dangers, with demons lying in wait. The peril was unquestionable.
Approaching the Well of the Abyss would be a formidable challenge.
Three flying swords hovered around Novak, not mere equipment but sword spirits controlled by the power of his "Biochemical Disaster" ability. These sword spirits could autonomously engage enemies, and their strength could be greatly amplified through sheer force of will.
With the three flying swords at his side, a sleek black and red aura suddenly enveloped Novak.
He transformed into a black shadow, streaking across the ground as a flash of red light. His speed was so immense that some of the freshly hatched demons nearby didn't even have a chance to react. They exploded instantly, their remains swept up by the tendrils, becoming one with the creeping mass of black and red.
Meanwhile, other demons with bloodshot eyes, filled with murderous intent and a thirst for battle, locked onto Novak and charged at him with furious speed.
It was as if they sought to tear him apart.
Novak's lips curled into a slight smile.
In an instant, the Biohazard ability activated, his claws extended with a chilling menace, seamlessly blending into the hellish landscape of the Abyss.
