Chapter 8

Xiyan

One thing I hated about not having my mother around was that there was no one to wake me up for school, especially since my alarm never quite worked on me.

Shit.

So that was how I ended up in my current situation.

I was francticaly running to school, since commuting would have had me two hours late instead of one, thanks to the traffic. Also one reason why I needed to be early: I'd reach school in time by walking instead of risking any kinds of local transportations.

I was running at such a speed I was surprised I manged not to trip over something or get into a car accident, which was something I was very prone to, since I rarely looked out for any cars when I was on the road, even though I should've known from experience how critical it was to be careful not to get involved in any accidents.

But either way, here I was. I'm not even sure if I wore my uniform properly since I was in such a rush, I barely took care of my hair, which I had tied as a messy ponytail.

But as I headed closer to the school gate, that became the last of my worries the moment I saw the guard standing strictly before me.

He sighed tiredly the moment he caught sight of me.

"Yet, you still had the audacity to come to school at this hour of the day, " I heard him mutter under his breath before fixing his gaze back on me.

"Come on, I need to bring you to the dean before you go to class. Your going to be in a lot of trouble, I'm af—"

His voice suddenly trailed off as his eyes looked past me, and he heaved out another, exhausted sigh.

Curious, I turned to look for whatever it was that made him act like so, to find out that it was another student. It was a familiar face I often saw yet had a lot wonder about.

It was Xam.

He was slouching as he approached us and he frowned the moment he met the security's unwelcoming gaze.

He stopped beside me and shoved a hand in his pocket before shotting me a glance.

I smiled at him, happy to have someone to endure whatever the punishment that was to be given us and also because I was trying to be approachable to him.

He lifted the corner of his mouth at me and turned back at the guard with a glare.

He was already making calls from the faculty, inquiring what he should do with us.

"…Alright, sir," he muttered in the phone, keeping his unwavering gaze on us. He put his phone away, and folded his arms.

"The dean's to busy to deal with you at the moment. But since your late, you still have to face punishments, of course. And that starts with cleaning the music room after class and after every use of the Glee Club for maybe a few months or so."

He stepped aside to let us pass. 1

"I don't see how hard it is to come early," he grumbled as we walked pass him, glad to be out of his sight and him out of ours.

We both heaved out a sigh of relief as we reached the building, almost running to our classroom.

"Good thing it's not the toilets we're cleaning," I said, mostly to myself.

I glanced at Xam, but he was already looking at me, his strange blue eyes studying me.

"Your don't usually get late," he said after I turned away from him.

I looked back at him, surprised that he was actually allowing the conversation to continue.

"Yeah, but I kinda over slept," I said looking away as we climbed the stairs.

He nodded and suddenly slowed his pace as he glanced at his watch. I glanced at it too and noticed that it seemed pretty expensive.

"We only have 10 minutes till recess," he said, breaking in to my thoughts.

"If you'd still want to go to class, go ahead. But I gotta warn you, Mrs. Kim wouldn't let you off so easily." He held my gaze, and I immediately understood what he was trying to say.

He wanted to skip class and that certainly wasn't a bad idea, considering the 10 minutes we had left.

"You've got a point," I grinned. "So where'd you wanna go?"

Xam

I stared, at her, stunned. I didn't actually think that she'd want to come with me when I suggested we'd skip class.

But, with the way she looked at me with those eager almond eyes, it told me more than enough.

"Well, where do you have in mind?" I asked, hesitant to give away my secret spot at the roof top.

She shrugged.

"How about, somewhere we could doze off for a while?"

I suggested, suddenly feeling exhausted.

She looked around the hallway, before turning back to me with a smile that left me breathless.

Damn, she's gorgeous.

A few minutes later, we both ended up in the Library.

Xiyan was busy looming over shelves that held countless books about history while I had my head buried in my arms at a desk nearby, comfortably listening to her mumble to herself as I started to doze off.

A while later, I suddenly woke up to find Xiyan asleep beside, with her head in a fat book which she seemed to be reading. I yawned and glanced at my watch to check the time and gulped.

We were seven minutes late to class, but not that I cared, though. However, I knew someone wouldn't be as non chalant about it as I was.

I glanced at Xiyan who remained confined in the comfort of her sleep.

She looked so peaceful.

I found mys3lf grinning as I
