Chapter 14

The smoke dispersed to reveal the wryn with a sizzling hole in the center of it's body, almost tearing it in half. Normal creatures would have died from that but the wryn was known for it's enormous vitality and it has already started recovering from its wounds.

"What kind of regeneration does it have?" Lucy muttered with a frown. The wasn't her first time fighting a creature that could regenerate but it was her first time fighting a wrym.

Lucy was about to continue attacking when she seemed a force making it's way through the earth and she stamped her feet and suppressed it. Still, her face reddened as she struggled to hold it back.

'It's trying to manipulate the earth!' Stopping someone from manipulating the earth was far more difficult than utilizing it. The only reason why the wrym didn't do it was because of its lack of intelligence.

"Bryan!" Lucy called out and Bryan nodded and nicked another arrow and fired at the struggling wrym but it was blocked by a layer of earthen ether.

'Carl's probably put for now.' The earlier attack had taken a lot out of the lizard and it weakly limped over to Ragna for protection.

'And Bryan is almost out of ether.' Lucy looked over and saw that the ether that once burned brightly had dimmed a little. In other words, it was up to her now.

'I kinda feel like the protagonist of a comic.' Lucy grinned slightly at the pressure and she stomped her feet again and suppressed the wrym's attack permanently and leaped into the air.

"Shape!" At her command, earthen ether congealed in the air into a scythe that she grabbed and brought it behind her.

"Skill - Harden." Lucy channeled hee beast ability and her skill took on a greyish brown hue, increasing her defences exponentially.

"Skill - Petrification Beam." Lucy channeled the skill and just held it in the corner of her eyes, keeping it on standby.

'I'm only going to have one shot at this.' Her grip tightened and as she descended, she avoided the poison attacks from the wrym and brought her scythe down on its side, tearing it as she dropped lower until she landed on the ground.

The wrym howled in pain and Lucy gazed at its head and finally released the skill she had been holding back. Grey light poured from her eyes and struck the wrym.

'Just as I thought, she's amazing.' Bryan grinned a bit and looked at Carl who was still cowering behind Ragna.

"And where's your pride as a dragon? Do you really want to get outdone by a lowly human?" Bryan muttered and Carl growled as he stood up.

"Okay, let's do this one last time. Were using that skill." Bryan winked and Carl nodded as he expanded.

....

At each level, a beast tamer and his or her beast gained a special ability. Fire Breath was a skill that Bryan gained as he reached Rare level, which was the second level. His third skill which he got as he reached the Elite level. Which led one to wonder, what was his first and initial skill.

'Depending on how this skill is used, it could probably become the most overpowered skill I could ever have.' Bryan thought as he swapped his bow for a spear and jumped atop of Carl.

Ragna was just watching the duo with mildy interested eyes and focused on supporting his daughter with as much ether as she needed.

'Though I do wonder what they're going to do.' Ragna spilt some of his attention to watch them after some consideration.

Bryan's first ability was quite simple. It was an ability named Lucky Time that accumulated 1 point of what he called Lucky points every hour. And he could spend the points in order to increase his luck.

The effects strengthened depending on how much points he used but since he had not used it every since the day that he got the ability, his points had amassed to an enormous amount.

'Let's set the time to five seconds.' Bryan thought and looked at his points which read - 350 in his line of sight. Of course, this was invisible to anyone who wasn't him so he only had to worry about looking like a fool and not being found out.

"Time set - 5 seconds. Lucky Points - 50." Bryan muttered and felt... nothing. Once it was activated, there was no way to even know whether it was active or not. Except for the things that occured.

The wrym looked at the figures headed towards it and opened its mouth when one of the petrified parts broke off internally and stabbed into its heart. It didn't go all the way through but it stalled him for a moment.

Lucy didn't miss the chance and raise her scythe which has transformed into a spear and threw it into the air. It was a random throw but as the wrym struggled to block it, it entered smoothly into its throat and sank inside before erupting and shaking the creature.

'As I thought, this skill is too overpowered.' Bryan looked on with an admiring gaze and opened his mouth as ether gathered in it.

"Skill - Fire Breath." Bryan's Fire Breath was a little different from Carl's as it was light blue, not white in colour. And rather than focusing on explosions and firepower...

'Mine is more of a persistent flame, kind of similar to Greek Fire.' Bryan thought as he fired off his breath and it curves to avoid Lucy before smashing into the wrym.

"Now!" Bryan panted as he felt the ether flowing through him recede and he stopped in his tracks.

'I guess I never got to use my weapon.' He smiled bitterly as Lucy and Ragna gathered either before finishing up the wrym in a peaceful manner that was not life threatening at all.

....

"That boy's got potential." O said with a small smile and D nodded.

"Was far as I can tell, his only weakness is his lack of ether. Well, that can be fixed over time." The usage of his special skill surprised them but didn't bother them. They did know people with similar skills and powers.

"But still... This is the first time I'm seeing you take interest in another person." D looked at O who had her attention directed at another screen.

"Is that so? Well, he kinda reminds me of someone I knew." O gave a wistful smile and D nodded.

"I see. He does look like him a bit."
