Rex sat at the head of the long table, his fingers drumming lightly against the polished wood as he observed the three city lords seated before him. Ayana stood silently at his side, her expression was cold like ice. The atmosphere in the room was heavy, a quiet tension lingering between them as they awaited his words.
Rex finally broke the silence.
"Do you know why I called all of you here?"
At those words, Jasiah and Rory flinched slightly, their eyes darting to one another before settling on Rex. Austin, however, remained calm, his aged face betraying no sign of unease. It was clear to Rex that the old man had far more experience than the other two. But even if he had experience he wouldn't be able to hide everything from Rex.
Before any of the others could speak, Rory was the first to react. He leaned forward slightly, a reverent gaze in his eyes as he hastily spoke.
