Talent Awakening
While many were still obsessing about the B-grade, the awakening continued but there were no B-grade again.
After James, ten students had completed the awakening but there was not even a C-grade talent. In fact, four of them didn't even awaken a talent.
Though it has been hundreds of years since the world changed into this, awakening is not a guarantee. In the beginning, it used to be less than 10%. It increased over time but still almost half of the population failed to awaken a talent.
Even among the awakened, the majority are C and below.
So four failing among eleven was not a surprise but for those four, that was devastating. Since they failed to awaken, then that means they can only live a common life, where nothing would be truly in their hands.
Even though others pitied their situation, most of them are worried about their own situation. Almost half the students here wouldn't be able to awaken if the federal statistics were to be believed.

"Next, Christopher Argent", the teacher called out.
The names were called according to their names, and their surnames were considered when the list was prepared and due to that, his name came quite early.
"Good luck", William called out to Chris who left his position and went up to the platform.
Chris did what others did. After a few minutes, he glowed.
"Beast Fusion, Grade: C", the teacher announced.
Chris woke up from the trance and heard the announcement and breathed a sigh of relief.
The reason was not because he awakened successfully, but rather due to another reason, that could cause a lot of commotion if it were known to the world.
After he returned to his own place, William congratulated him, "Hahaha, I knew that you can awaken but I am doubting whether I could awaken or not".
Chris smiled, "Thanks William and I think that you would awaken too".
Though it was not proven, it was said that the child of a Beast Tamer has a higher chance of awakening. If both their parents are Beast Tamers, the chances are much higher.
To this day, there was no proof but the children of parents who are both Beast Tamers were able to awaken, even if it was the weakest F-grade. So, the society changed into where Beast Tamers marry only other Beast Tamers now.
Like Chris's parents, William's Parents are both Beast Tamers and are considered to be on the same level as Chris's parents. This is why Chris said that he could awaken a talent. To this day, no child where both the parents are Beast Tamers has failed to awaken.
"Thanks for the vote of confidence", William thanked his friend.

Once Chris was free from his friend's troubles, he checked his status.
In this world, everyone who can awaken a talent would given access to a status panel.

The status panel is simple. Unlike in the novels that he read where the status panel usually shows the attributes and other things, this panel a gift from the world for the successful awakening of the talent, doesn't show anything other than what's needed.
It just shows personal information like Name, Age, Talent they awakened, Rank at present, Tamed pets and Skills they obtained.
It's very simple and straightforward, without any clutter giving the tamer a headache.
"I was lucky", Chris muttered to himself as he once again viewed his status.
Though William heard the mutter he didn't think much about it. His mind was on his own awakening that would happen in a few minutes. Whether he would rise or fall would be decided in a few minutes. So he has no time to even think about Chris at that moment.
Chris thought he was lucky because the awakening ritual gave him two talents but showed only the lowest of them.
The talents can be repetitive. It means that the same talent would appear but in a different grade.
Talents range from F to SSS.
The order goes like this F, E, D, C, B, A, S, SS, and SSS, where F is the weakest grade while SSS is the highest.
For example, let's take Fire Control, which gives the tamer better control of fire skills and because of his talent he should only tame beasts that are connected to fire elements for the best growth scenario.
This Fire Control ranges from F to SSS. At F grade, it would be useful to light campfires or to cook to a certain extent. There would be no use above that, as it is considered weak.
The talents are not just for the beast tamers but also for the beasts.
If the tamer has a better grade of Fire Control then the beast can use its power much better than if it's contracted to someone with a weak Fire Control.
This is why the grade of the talent is very important. Though not every beast can sense the talent, they can after they reach a certain rank. So someone with weak talent can only make a contract with Pet Eggs or newborn beasts.
For beasts, their intelligence increases with rank. Of course, there are certain races that has higher intelligence from birth. So a beast tamer with a weak talent would have a harder time making a contract with beasts when compared to someone with a higher talent grade.
This is why higher-grade talents are in great demand.
The problem was if a person had great talent but no background, others would try to crush them due to being envious or afraid that their power would diminish when they rose to power.
There is another scenario that could happen, that is they would try to bring the talent into their fold using conditions that may not be better for the talented person.
The chances of that happening are not a guarantee as there is the Federal Alliance that oversees everything but who knows what would happen outside of the city.
Chris felt lucky because has escaped such a bad scenario, which could have brought down his entire family.
