First pet (6)

Once Chris chose the beast egg, that he was going to make a contract with, he called a nearby worker from the bestiary.

After showing his selection to this worker, the worker took out the egg from the lock and led Chris to another room where the contract could be made.

They don't need a new room to make contracts, but there are too many students and there is a chance that one can slip with more than one beast egg.

Even though the Alliance is rich in comparison to the common folk, losses like that would lead to substantial damage to the Alliance.

They are already giving out the first pet for free, without charging a single coin. It may look small when you see a single school but when you consider the entire Alliance, thousands of students awaken a talent every year.

This means that the Alliance had to allocate hundreds of thousands of Federal Coins' worth of resources to the students for free. It is already a huge loss but they consider that as an investment for the future of the Federal Alliance.

Giving them an egg to start their career is already a generous thing. This is an investment, not a charity to give others things for free for nothing.

Only nothing can be gained for nothing.

Anything else would cost something.

To stop such things from happening, precautions were taken. No matter what, the student would get a beast egg for free. Once they select one, that would be the end of the charity.

Nothing more after that. Whether they can become a pillar or fall, depends solely on them.

The Alliance doesn't expect everyone to be talented enough to become a pillar, but it hopes that a few will become one. That would be more than enough for the continuance of the Federal Alliance for a few centuries.

Of course, even though a few are more than enough, they are hoping that more than a few will become the pillars of society so that humans can progress further.

The worker left after leading Chris to the contract room and after instructing Chris on how to proceed after the contract was made.

"Hmm, hope this won't let me down", Chris thought.

He took a pin and pierced his finger with it and blood oozed out of the finger. He placed his finger over the egg and squeezed his finger a little to let a drop of blood fall on the egg.

Once he saw that the blood drop that fell was absorbed, he uttered the Beast Contract spell, which was essentially an invitation to the beast to become his pet. The beast could accept it or reject it but beasts that are still in eggs don't usually reject a taming invitation.

Only in the case of hatched beasts would one have to worry whether the beasts would accept their contract or not. This was because any creature would only gain intelligence after birth and it improves as they grow up. It was due to the lack of intelligence that it makes easier for the unhatched to accept the taming invitation.

Within a few seconds, he felt that the beast accepted him to be its master. From now on, the little beast that was inside the egg would be his pet.

He placed the egg in his Beast Space when everything went perfectly.

Beast Space is something a person would unlock once he successfully tames a beast. The number of these spaces depends on the number of pets the person has.

Of course, there is a limit on how many one can have, though the number could be different depending on the person. to know the exact number, one has to personally experiment by trying to tame as many as possible. There was no meter to determine that.

Once Chris made his contract, he left the room. He knew that students from other schools would be entering after them and it was a basic courtesy to not cause trouble for them, just because you took a lot of time in selecting your partner.

---

The exit from the contract room led to another room, where his schoolmates were already waiting. Most of them had made their decision in minutes, as their talents didn't give them many options to choose from.

Only a few entered the room after Chris.

Once the hour was up, Mrs. Hale who was waiting in the room for a long time, started to count the numbers and once she was satisfied that everyone was there, she spoke, "I hope that everyone has chosen the best beast that they could for yourself. As you know that the college exam would be held in a month. The month is all you got to improve yourself before the exam".

"If you can afford private trainers, you can stay at home or I hope that you are not stupid to think that you can learn anything on your own. There are trainers at the school. You can seek their help to grow your beasts. As you know, you are now Beast Tamers and that means you have to pass two exams, one theoretical and the other practical exam".

"In practical exams, you have to face other beast tamers who awakened along with you. Based on your performance, you would be ranked. This is what decides what college academy that you could attend. So in the next month prepare well. That's all for now. If you have all your belongings with you, you can return home or follow me to school to collect your belongings", she said as she exited the room.

More than a few followed her.

Chris had brought his school bag with him and following him so did William. So they are among the few who returned directly to their homes.

This saved a lot of time for Chris, as he knew that his family should be stressed about his awakening. Since all of his remaining family has gone through this, he was sure that they could have come to the conclusion that I may have awakened but they don't know what the talent is.

Having a weak talent may look good for the common people but only Beast Tamers knew how this world works. Having a weak talent is not different from having no talent at all.

Chris knew that and he wanted to relieve the tension his family was feeling at the moment.
