"Wait a minute, something is not right here", muttered Chris, with his eyes once again turned to the status of his pet.
He read the status once again and spotted what was wrong with that.
"Why is there a One-tailed suffix before the Frost Fox?" he questioned himself. There is no one else in the room except for himself, making the question for himself.
His pet beast's species should have been just Frost Fox, but it is showing a One-tailed Frost Fox and that means what he got was not a Frost Fox, at least not in a normal sense.
"Wait, is this a mutated frost fox?" Chris muttered to himself again.
Beasts could undergo mutation and every beat tamer would go crazy whenever they come across a mutated beasts. This was because they were essentially more powerful than their counterparts.
A more powerful beast means they would easily defeat their opponents, which hastened its growth much faster.
Beasts increase their strength either through fighting or eating the resources. These are the two ways that a beast tamer can increase the rank of their beast.
Finding the resources that can improve their growth is not always easy. Moreover, as beast tamers, they have to fight monsters that can attack the human settlements.
Whenever there is an attack on the human settlements, the attacking monster would usually be strong enough to challenge most of the powers in that settlement, maybe even strong enough to challenge the top powerhouse of that settlement.
Without enough strength or fighting experience, which these monsters usually have, it's almost impossible to defeat them.
It means the beast tamers would need to increase the fighting experience of their pet beasts in order to survive such ordeals, which occur once in a while.
They may not be common but that doesn't mean that they are rare either.

Though Chris was at first surprised, he smiled a little at the end.
With a mutated beast in his arsenal, the heights he could reach now have shifted upwards. This is something worth celebrating but he stopped himself.
Though usually mutations bring extra prowess to the beasts, there are times when these mutations became problematic for the beasts too.
The reason could be because those problems were genuine and they were more harmful than useful for the beast or people didn't understand what those mutations brought to beasts.
Either case, Chris decided to celebrate or not, only after the Egg hatched and when he could see what the mutation actually brought to his pet.
There is still time for it.
The egg could hatch by morning and that would be when he could clear his suspicions of whether he made the right decision or not by choosing this egg.
Chris pulled the egg from the beast space and placed it on the table in his room, before going to sleep.
Due to worrying about whether he could awaken a talent or not, his nerves were on the edge and after that, when selecting the beast egg, they were once again on the edge because he was worried whether he had enough time to select the best of the beast eggs.
Though he had already made a contract, there was still some worry whether he made a good decision or not. He needed sleep to calm his nerves and also from the next day, every day would be very important.
There is only a month before the exams happen. If he wants to get into a good academy, he needs to show his capabilities, or else he has to accept his fate and select a common college, where the growth rate would not be as fast as it would be in the top colleges.
With a top-grade talent called Beast Evolution, he has no need for the resources that a common college can give him. What he needs are resources that are in a category of their own and those are only available through the top academies.
Thinking about his future, slowly, he went to sleep.

When Chris woke up in the morning, he could hear some sounds. being groggy from the sleep he didn't understand what those sounds were.
*wow...wow..wow*
It took him a full minute to understand where the sounds were coming from. He turned his head to his side, where he saw a white crystalline body rubbing to his side and making those sounds.
There are pieces of eggshell nearby on the table. Chris understood that his pet hatched from the egg and came to his side to sleep. He smiled at this.
His pet was hatched. He immediately picked up the white crystalline body and turned it to look at its face, which was groggy and making snoring sounds. Even after he picked it up, it didn't open its eyes at all and was sleeping making adorable sounds once in a while.
He shook his head, thinking that this beast seemed to be a lazy one but he didn't mind about that.
"Since you are all white, I shall call you Snow from now onwards", Chris spoke.
Hearing no confirmation from the fox, which was sleeping without a care in the world, he was surprised. Normally when they are named, it was said that the beasts would either acknowledge or reject it based on whether they like the name or not.
All that he got were the cute sounds it had been making since he woke up and saw it.
Chris took a look at the status to see whether the name was accepted or not. Also, he wanted to check what the mutation did to the frost fox.
