As soon as he reached me, Old Wu was panting heavily. He pointed at me, and after a considerable pause, exclaimed, “You little rascal, how dare you cross me?”
“It was you who initiated it…”
“I spoke the truth that day!”
“Just as I am speaking the truth now…”
“I didn’t cheat!”
“I never accused you of cheating. I referred to your actions that day…”
Old Wu was momentarily at a loss for words, his retort stifled. Rolling his eyes, he insisted, “I don’t care; today I owe them over six hundred. You’re covering that!”
“Not a chance!”
With that, I turned to leave. Old Wu quickly positioned himself in front of me, arms outstretched to block my path.
“No way, you must pay!”
I regarded him coolly, deliberately taunting him. “What’s this? No more gambling, just outright robbery?”
