Though I felt helpless, I had no other choice. I hastily packed a few essentials and took a taxi straight to the East Station. The East Station is the oldest railway station in Harbei City, characterized by its Russian architectural style.
Upon my arrival, I found Old Wu squatting in front of the main gate, engrossed in the lively atmosphere around a chess stall. As soon as he spotted me, he sprang to his feet.
Without uttering a word, he seized my arm and dragged me into the station.
“Where are we going?” I inquired urgently.
“To Zhan Guantun...”
Though the name Zhan Guantun sounded rather quaint, it is, in fact, a significant city within our province. Before the year 2000, it was famously known worldwide as the ‘Thieves’ City.’
Upon learning our destination, I immediately questioned, “What are we going there for?”
“To gamble! You promised to help me win a game against someone!”
