The Years I Was The Gambling God

He quickly turned to the other three players and urged them, “Could you lend me some money for this hand? I promise to repay you once this round concludes!” Joyce spoke with an air of certainty, as though victory were already his. 


Silently, the three players each pushed their stacks of cash onto the table, creating a veritable mountain of green bills that ignited a rush of adrenaline in all present. 


“Deal the cards!” Joyce urged Huang Ze, his excitement palpable. 


Huang Ze dealt us our final cards. My last card was the three of hearts, while Joyce received the ten of spades. My visible cards consisted of a king, seven, queen, and three hearts, with the hidden card being the three diamonds—I was left with a pair of threes.
