After placing the bets, Douglas began to draw his third card. It has to be acknowledged that Douglas's eyesight, memory, and single-finger speed are far from ordinary. With just a light glide of his finger over the deck, he effortlessly extracted a card from the middle. When revealed on the table, it was the King of Spades.
I followed suit and drew a card, which turned out to be the Jack of Clubs. At this point, Douglas's visible cards were the 10 and King of Spades, while my cards were a mixed 2 and Jack, along with the hidden 6 of Clubs.
"The King of Spades speaks!" Douglas picked up a stack of chips and said to me, "Mr. Lupan, your cards are both small and disordered. I'm going to take advantage of you a bit. Five hundred thousand!" With a flourish, he tossed five hundred-thousand-dollar chips onto the table.
I sneered but remained silent, matching his bet with my chips.
