Chapter 33: A Business Proposition

There was too much tension in the room. I couldn't tell if Andrew was reading my mind or attempting to scare me into submission because his piercing gaze never faltered. In any case, we were unwilling to compromise, and our stillness splintered like static electricity.

I finally broke the silence by saying, "You can't be serious."

With a calm yet authoritative stance, Andrew reclined in the leather armchair. "Amelia, I've never been more serious. Stability is important here, not only for you but also for the unborn child.

Leaning on the kitchen counter for support, I folded my arms. His remarks struck me like bricks even though they appeared to have been carefully chosen. Move in together? As though the mayhem that surrounded us could be magically resolved by sharing a single residence.

"And exactly how would this living arrangement look?" With a hint of sarcasm in my voice, I questioned. "As the world watches, you, me, and the baby play happy family?"
