Chapter 39

It was raining heavily as Lily was buried, and Rafael felt agony in his heart. His little princess had left her forever, and it was so hard to believe. God couldn't be that cruel, he thought. How could he take his most precious thing from him?

He and his family were standing there in the pouring rain; Lily's mother and grandmother had last seen her, and she had been buried; the Min family's lone child had died.

Rafael couldn't bear to look at the fresh mound of dirt that now covered Lily's small body. The weight of grief felt like a physical ache in his chest, threatening to consume him whole.

The sound of raindrops hitting the umbrella above them seemed to echo the tears that fell freely from their eyes. Lily's absence was a void that could never be filled, a loss that would forever haunt their family.

He put a white rose on her grave with a heavy heart. He was on his knees and couldn't bear this pain. He whispered, "I will always love you."
