CHAPTER 6: The Call of Treasures

The next morning Xiao Feng go out from his room and walked through the bustling streets of Lanxian City, now alive with an air of excitement and anticipation. Crowds had gathered in the city square, where a man dressed in a crimson robe stood on a raised platform, his voice booming across the crowd.

"Hear me, brave warriors, treasure seekers, and cultivators alike!" the man declared. "The ancient lands have awakened once more! Hidden treasures, boundless wealth, and rare artifacts await those daring enough to venture into their depths. But heed this warning—these places are as dangerous as they are rewarding. Only those with courage and skill will survive!"

The crowd murmured in excitement, some already debating which place they would dare to explore. Xiao Feng pushed his way forward, his curiosity piqued.

The man raised his hand, quieting the crowd, and began listing the locations:

The Crimson Rift: A canyon filled with molten rivers and fiery beasts, rumored to contain rare fire-based artifacts.

The Shadowed Abyss: A dark, mist-covered valley inhabited by creatures of the night, guarding treasures of immense power.

The Eternal Peaks: Snowy mountains said to house crystals that can enhance a summoner's bond with their beast.

The Jade Serpent Marsh: A treacherous swamp where venomous creatures guard ancient alchemical recipes.

The Sunken Ruins of Taiyu: Underwater ruins said to hide an artifact that grants control over water.

"Choose your path wisely!" the man announced. "Those who bring back a treasure will be rewarded with wealth beyond imagination!"

Xiao Feng's gaze sharpened as he studied the map displayed by the announcer. Without hesitation, he pointed at The Shadowed Abyss. The crowd gasped at his choice—many murmured that it was the deadliest of all the locations.

"The Shadowed Abyss, eh?" the man said with a sly grin. "You're either very brave or very foolish. Prepare yourself, young one."

Xiao Feng stepped back, resolute. Danger is just another test of strength, he thought, feeling the comforting energy of Lei Long pulsing through his bond.

The Journey Begins

Before setting out, Xiao Feng decided to visit a shop to prepare for the perilous journey. Asking around, he learned of a place called The Celestial Merchant, an ancient store known for carrying rare and unique items that catered to adventurers.

The shop was located in a quiet alley, its entrance marked by a carved wooden door adorned with symbols of beasts and celestial phenomena. As he stepped inside, the scent of incense and aged parchment filled his senses.

Behind the counter stood an elderly man with a long, white beard and sharp eyes that seemed to see through to one's soul. "Welcome to The Celestial Merchant," he said in a raspy voice. "What brings you here, young traveler?"

"I'm preparing for a journey to The Shadowed Abyss," Xiao Feng replied.

The old man's eyes widened slightly. "The Abyss, you say? A bold choice. Few who enter that cursed valley ever return."

"I don't intend to fail," Xiao Feng said firmly.

The old man studied him for a moment before nodding. "Very well. I have just the items you'll need." He disappeared into the back of the shop, returning moments later with a small collection of items.

Luminous Talisman: A glowing amulet that dispels darkness and repels shadow beasts.

Beast Caller's Flute: A carved wooden flute that can strengthen the bond between summoner and beast, allowing for more precise coordination.

Shadowbane Powder: A pouch of powdered herbs that can be used to confuse and repel creatures of the Abyss.

Map of the Abyss: An old, tattered map marking key locations and warnings within the valley.

Xiao Feng examined the items. "How much for all of these?"

"For a brave soul like you? Five silver coins," the old man said with a wry smile.

Xiao Feng handed over the coins, placing the items carefully into his satchel.

"One last piece of advice," the old man said as Xiao Feng turned to leave. "The Shadowed Abyss is not just a place of danger. It is a test of one's resolve. Do not lose sight of who you are, or you'll never return."

"I won't forget," Xiao Feng replied, bowing slightly before stepping out into the fading light of day.

Into the Night

The city streets were quieter now as Xiao Feng walked back toward his lodging. The weight of the journey ahead filled his mind, but he felt no fear. With Lei Long by his side and the tools he had gathered, he was ready to face whatever lay within the Shadowed Abyss.

As he reached the inn, he glanced up at the sky. The moon hung high, its light casting a silver glow over the city. He whispered to himself, "This is just the beginning. The path of the Beast Summoner is never easy, but it's mine to walk."

Lei Long's voice echoed in his mind. Remember, Xiao Feng, treasures are not just found in gold and jewels. The true treasure lies in the bonds you forge and the strength you gain along the way.

Xiao Feng nodded. "Then let's see what awaits us in the Abyss."

With that, he stepped into the inn, ready to rest and prepare for the dawn.

The Next Morning

The dawn brought a golden hue to city as Xiao Feng prepared for the journey to the Shadowed Abyss. With his satchel filled with provisions and the rare items from The Celestial Merchant, he stepped out of the inn. His resolve was strong, and Lei Long's reassuring presence in his mind kept him calm.

As he approached the city gates, a familiar voice called out. "Xiao Feng, wait!"

He turned slightly, recognizing the voice of Chen Hao. Chen Hao jogged toward him, his broad frame and confident demeanor exuding strength.

"I'm also heading to the Shadowed Abyss," Chen Hao announced with a grin. "What do you say we travel together? It's better to have someone watching your back in a place like that."

Xiao Feng considered for a moment before nodding. "Fine by me. Let's go."

The Journey Begins

The duo set out, leaving the city behind as the sun climbed higher in the sky. The path to the Shadowed Abyss was treacherous, winding through dense forests and rocky terrains. As dusk began to fall, they decided to set up camp in a clearing surrounded by towering trees.

A crackling fire provided warmth as they sat beside it, their shadows dancing in the flickering light. Chen Hao glanced at Xiao Feng, curiosity evident on his face.

"Xiao Feng," Chen Hao began hesitantly, "can I ask you something personal?"

Xiao Feng tilted his head, his unseeing eyes reflecting the firelight. "Go ahead."

"Your blindness... were you always this way? And how do you manage to see?"

Xiao Feng's expression softened. "I was born blind," he said simply. "But I see with my heart, my soul, and my bond with Lei Long. Sight is not limited to the eyes, Chen Hao."

Chen Hao looked thoughtful. "In this world, people only respect power. The weak are ignored. Yet you've turned your blindness into a strength. That's admirable."

Before Xiao Feng could respond, the rustling of leaves interrupted their conversation. A group of five figures dressed in black cloaks emerged from the shadows, their faces partially obscured.

One of them, a tall man with a scar running down his cheek, stepped forward. "We're heading to the Shadowed Abyss as well," he said. "Let's work together and share the rewards."

The others nodded in agreement, introducing themselves as Wei Rong, Mei Lian, Zhang Kai, Luo Jian, and Fang Yi.

Chen Hao leaned closer to Xiao Feng and whispered, "I don't trust them. Their aura feels... wrong."

Xiao Feng smiled faintly. "Neither do I. But for now, let's see where this takes us."

The group agreed to travel together, though Chen Hao and Xiao Feng remained cautious.

The Shadowed Abyss

The next day, the group reached the outskirts of the Shadowed Abyss. The sight before them was both awe-inspiring and ominous. Massive stone structures, intricately carved with runes, formed the gate to the Abyss. A faint, pulsating aura emanated from the stones, filling the air with an ancient and mysterious energy.

As they approached, Fang Yi, one of the cloaked men, stepped toward the gate. He placed his hands on the stone, but a surge of power threw him back, leaving him trembling and pale.

"What kind of place is this?" Wei Rong muttered, looking visibly shaken.

Chen Hao glanced at Xiao Feng. "Looks like it's your turn."

Xiao Feng stepped forward, his calm demeanor drawing the attention of the group.

"What can a blind man do?" Zhang Kai scoffed, folding his arms.

Ignoring the remark, Xiao Feng placed his hand on the gate. His connection to Lei Long surged, and a faint blue glow surrounded him. With a single push, the massive doors creaked open, revealing the dark expanse of the Abyss.

A voice echoed from the surrounding stones, reverberating like a celestial decree.

"Congratulations, Xiao Feng. You have set a record by opening the gate in the shortest time and with a single attempt."

The group stared in stunned silence as Xiao Feng turned to face them, a small smile playing on his lips.

"Shall we?" he said, stepping into the darkness without hesitation.

The others followed, their earlier doubts replaced with a mixture of awe and unease. Xiao Feng's journey into the Shadowed Abyss had begun, and the true test awaited.
