After Nero registered as an adventurer, the receptionist began asking her to choose a profession.
"Based on Nero's stats, you're essentially eligible for all professions. This includes the Crusader, famed for its unparalleled defense, the Swordmaster, an advanced class of the Swordsman boasting unmatched attack power, the High Priest, the ultimate evolution of a Priest, and the Grand Mage, the pinnacle of magical prowess, among others..."
"Although your magic stat isn't as high as the person who came a few days ago, the fact that you can select any advanced profession right at level one is unheard of!"
"Profession?"
Nero tilted her head in confusion but then suddenly declared with confidence, "My profession is Emperor!"
And she was promptly dragged aside by Alice.
After a moment, Nero returned to the receptionist.
"As Emperor, I am omnipotent. So, is there a profession that mirrors my versatility and allows me to learn all skills?"
"Uh... well... there might be one profession that fits your criteria."
In the end, Nero chose the weakest profession, known as "Adventurer."
Yes, the same class as the protagonist, Kazuma Satou.
While most professions have specific attribute requirements, the Adventurer class has none. Kazuma had no choice but to pick this class because his stats were abysmally low, with luck being his only standout trait.
The sole advantage of the Adventurer class is its ability to learn all skills. However, in this world, learning skills consumes skill points, and Adventurers require significantly more points than other classes to learn the same skills.
For instance, a skill that might cost one skill point for others could cost an Adventurer ten points, making it an inefficient choice.
But Nero didn't mind. She just wanted to conduct an experiment.
Her physical abilities were entirely derived from her Servant's Saint Graph. She was curious whether this world's leveling system would apply to her and whether she could retain any levels or skills gained here if she traveled to another world.
At present, Nero's level was only one since she had just registered as an Adventurer.
Alice, on the other hand, seemed to have a relatively high level, reportedly due to her diet of high-quality ingredients that naturally boosted her stats.
This, however, posed a problem when the receptionist requested to check Alice's Adventurer card.
Alice visibly panicked. Although her name could be faked, the stats and level displayed on the card were genuine and immutable.
Alice's level was absurdly high—likely the strongest human in this world. Nero recalled hearing that Alice was considered the pinnacle of combat strength here. If the receptionist saw her card, who knew what chaos might ensue?
"Alice, give the card to me," Nero said.
Trusting Nero completely, Alice handed over her Adventurer card without hesitation.
Nero accepted the card and subtly tapped her thumb on the level section before handing it to the receptionist.
"Yes, Miss Alice, is it? Such remarkable stats..."
The receptionist said similar things to what she'd said to Nero earlier before returning the card to Alice.
"Um… thank you."
Alice, slightly overwhelmed, accepted the card with both hands and whispered a soft thank-you.
When she glanced down at her card, she was astonished to find that the level section now displayed "Level 1," while all her other stats remained unchanged.
"A little sleight of hand from my world, enough to deceive perception," Nero whispered slyly into Alice's ear.
Alice's stats were undeniably impressive, but with Nero stealing the spotlight and the recent appearance of someone whose magical prowess reportedly exceeded even Nero's, Alice didn't cause much of a stir.
Having completed their Adventurer registration, the two eagerly approached the quest board.
Sheets of parchment adorned the wall, each detailing a quest, creating a dazzling sight.
Alice tilted her head back, her clear blue eyes shining with excitement as she scanned each parchment. Her enthusiasm was palpable as she occasionally stood on tiptoe to read the details of each quest.
"Sister, why do some of these sheets have red marks on them?"
"It looks like skulls. I'd guess it's an indicator of danger—the more red skulls, the more dangerous the quest."
"Eh? Is that so? Sister! There's a quest here covered in red skulls! It's about defeating a 'One-Hit Bear.' Oh! I know what that is! The forest near the capital is full of them—they're quite common monsters!"
"Except, in this case, it seems to be a boss-tier version of the monster. Hmm."
"In addition to monster subjugation, there are quests for teaching swordsmanship and even finding lost pet cats. Wow… I didn't know adventurers could do so many things. It's an incredible profession!"
Alice's admiration for Adventurers grew significantly. Despite Claire often telling her that Adventurers were usually unruly and lacking manners, Alice didn't seem to heed those warnings.
"Eh? What's this one…"
Alice's gaze landed on a particularly unique quest, and Nero's attention was drawn to it as well.
"A high-reward search quest? 'Seeking a noble young lady with golden hair and elegant demeanor'…"
"Um… Nero, could this… could this be about us?" Alice whispered nervously, clinging to Nero's arm. "Do you think Claire and the others already found out we're here?"
"Unlikely. We just left, and this is the kingdom's border. The timing doesn't make sense... It's probably about someone else."
"R-Really?" Alice asked, her clear blue eyes fixed on the quest parchment. "So…"
"It's a coincidence. Perhaps another noble girl who bears a slight resemblance to you ran away before us. Look closely—this parchment seems to have been here for several days. It doesn't match the timeline of our escape."
Nero's explanation helped Alice breathe a small sigh of relief.
"So, which quest should we take? The One-Hit Bear?"
"Not likely." Nero shook her head. "Since we're just 'level one rookie Adventurers,' high-difficulty quests like that are probably off-limits. Let's pick something else."
"Okay, I'll follow your lead," Alice replied obediently.
In the end, Nero selected a quest to subjugate giant frogs.
Nero was curious about the monsters that Kazuma's party, despite their notorious ability to repeatedly wipe out Demon King Army generals, struggled against. Just how strong could they be?
