"Sir someone in the force has been interested in applying for a position as a Special Officer."
"You have the name of the officer?"
"No, not yet at the moment. I just heard that around the office right now."
"Just be on hold until further notice of someone applying for a Special Officer."
"Yes Sir, I'll be on hold until then."
The Chief looks over the officers doing their morning jog outside. Something in his mind wondering what a person would think of applying for a Special Officer position at this time right now. It could be just curiosity or it could be something else who knows what the motivation of this person.
The position of a Special Officer is a huge responsibility, gifted of freedom to choose who to work for, freedom to bring justice to anyone who needs it or who deserves it. But it can be exploited for horrible reasons, corrupt reasons, or in general a dangerous position no one should just be given all willy-nilly.
The world is harsh to those who can choose someone's fate at point-blank range without remorse, no consequences. What do you think someone would do with that kind of responsibility given to them. Every officer would basically deal with their personal grudges first then deal with everything else down the line.
Chaos would ensue with everyone being their own Judge, Jury, and Executioner. That's why we only pick those who are worthy and those who passes the Special Course and our judgement if that said person should become a Special Officer. We've only had a few cases of a Special Officer actually breaking their promises.
We don't want another situation like that given to an Officer who has more power than they should have ever wielded. Sometimes the best positions or ranks should never be given to anyone whatever the cause, ambition, and ability they may have. But if we have been forced to give someone that kind of power. I know one kid whose capable of having this kind of power.
Meanwhile in the office of Squad 772...
Office work has been pretty good since we're a mid-level squad we're only really dispatched on hard missions and those that require our specialty which is surprisingly we picked up is combat. So our work is mostly just paperwork for the higher ups to check later on.
"Man, work sucks today." Officer Tim slouches on his desk.
"Well nothing much is happening out there you know. We do paperwork just like everyone does." Officer Weiss replied as he continues to work on his pile of paperwork.
"Shut up Tim, you barely got pass your first pile of papers. We've already done more than three piles of paperwork." Officer Uni angrily sneered at Officer Uni.
"You sure about that? I already sent four piles of paperwork to the higher ups so actually I did more than five piles already." Officer Tim smugly replied.
"I'll add more work on both of you if you don't shut up about work." Officer Weiss sighed.
I quietly continued working while everyone was chatting. It isn't bad doing office work from time to time since it does take off my mind from the problems happening outside you know?
While working I heard the P.A system announces something.
"Officer Rook, you are being summoned by the Chief, please meet him at his office.
"Seems like the Chief has something to say to you Rook." Officer Uni looked at me.
"How lucky he gets away from all these paperwork." Officer Tim lazing around.
As a thud of another pile of paperwork landed on Officer Tim's table courtesy of Officer Weiss.
"W-W-What?! Weiss why!?" Officer Tim is shocked.
"Since Rook won't be here for a while since he has been summoned by the Chief you'll be handling his remaining paperwork while he is away." Officer Weiss smiled as he headed back to his desk.
Soon after that I left the office and headed to the Chief's room wondering what would be the reason for this summon this time. It's still pretty early for anything right now, I should get a sandwich later after this.
As I bumped into someone accidentally dropping their stuff.
"Oh I'm sorry about that I wasn't looking at my direction." I immediately grabbed the fallen folders, documents, and binders.
I spotted an unusual document with nothing written on it except only reading Redacted.
"No, no, don't worry about it I bumped into you without noticing because of my stuff. I'm so sorry." Said the female officer who was on her way down the hall.
"You in a hurry or something?" I asked.
"I was a bit late for a meeting so thanks for helping me with my documents." She bowed.
"It was no problem no one got badly hurt so it's fine. I'll get going." I waved at her as we went our separate ways.
What was she carrying on those documents and why most of them are unmarked with Redacted on most of them. Probably some high clearance information only the higher ups or high ranking officers could only look. But she doesn't looked like a high ranking officer.
I shrugged off that idea off my mind and continued on to the Chief's office where it was a bit quiet when I entered.
"Chief, you summoned me for something?" I carefully entered the room like last time.
"Come take a seat Officer Rook." The Chief calmly looked at me as he points to the seat.
I sat down as I look around the office being a bit more organized than before.
"Now you're wondering why I called you here out of nowhere again. I have a reason, a request per say, not from me but from someone." The Chief looked worried for some reason.
"Come again, Chief?" I asked.
"You've been requested to be someone's escort/bodyguard. For one of the Mayor's children, on a visit to District 6." The Chief looked at me directly.
"Chief I haven't been here for a long time now and I've been given a request to guard someone already?" I politely rebutted.
"I tried my best to say you're still new to this but they insisted that you should be the escort of the Mayor's child. The reason why is because they found your recent actions a few days ago caused a curiosity of your abilities in protecting VIP's. Which is a fair reflection but I've told them you haven't been out in the field that often just yet and that was a one time thing out of spite." The Chief tried to lightened the mood.
I never thought this new kid would cause such a ruckus in everyone's perspective that they want to test him in many scenarios. Like a guinea pig being tested for drugs and all kind of horrifying stuff. I don't want a young kid be exposed to this kind of work too early he hasn't done anything that big just yet apart from handling some thugs and assisting his squad members.
Not that I doubt his potential though, he just needs more time and exposure to small things first before sending him into the big leagues. But if he pulls this off he might change things around here which is great for newbies entering as a form of motivation for them. Who knows this kid might get a special recruitment into the Special Officer position.
There is a possibility of this kid applying for such a position. The rumors said that its one of our rookies is thinking about it. Though Officer Rook is the only one that was new there's still a lot of rookies in this station. He's just the only one that joined this late because of his RTR Program. Why oh why I don't know but it's the Mayor's orders and he wants him to protect her.
"Your mission is basically to guard the Mayor's child as she goes to meet the District 6's representatives in the other district for relations. It's mostly just making sure no unusual entities get to meddle with her and making sure she is safe where ever she goes. From the info given she's the responsible one out of the Mayor's children who supports him at his work." The Chief looking at the paperwork.
Seems like I've been called to become someone's babysitter. Not like its a bad thing it's just overwhelming since its the Mayor's daughter which is one. The most influential person right next to the Mayor, and an important person of the Mayor. If I screw this up I could be thrown back into prison again.
And I definitely don't want that happening again!
