Chapter 11 Don't Like Anymore

Originally weak, she fell into the river on a bitterly cold day. If she didn't take good care of her body, it might affect her chances of getting married later.

Lu Daya was rejected by Xu Ying. Recalling her past actions, she hurriedly ate up all the fish meat and finished the soup with a blissful lick of her lips.

This was the first time she had tasted fish soup since she had grown up.

Seeing her finish, Xu Ying finally smiled. She stood up, took the bowl, and placed it in the basket.

Then, she secretly took out a few boiled salted eggs from her pocket, "Sister Daya, keep these to eat slowly."

"Can I give them to my second brother?" Lu Daya hastily asked; in the family, only her second brother treated her kindly.

Her parents favored her eldest brother's family, giving all the good things to him and his son, though her second brother was somewhat better.

But her second brother always hesitated to eat good things and secretly gave them to her. Now that she had something good, she wanted to give it to him.

However, as the items weren't originally hers, she thought it was best to ask first.

Xu Ying couldn't help but laugh, seeing how gentle-hearted Lu Daya was: "Once I've given you the things, you can make your own decisions, but you must make sure you eat as well. If I see you so frail next time, I will—"

"What will you do?" Lu Daya asked with her pale face.

Xu Ying laughed in exasperation: "I will watch you eat and not let you give anything away."

Hearing this, Lu Daya chuckled, "Don't worry, Sister Ying, I definitely won't give everything to my second brother as he also refrains from eating."

"That's good. Oh, Sister Daya, if you feel better, come with me to the brigade's office this afternoon to repeat the story of how you saved me."

Lu Daya nodded. When she had first woken up, she had overheard her mother scolding Chen Zhiqing for shamelessly taking credit for saving Xu Ying, which seemed to be true now.

"Rest well, I'm heading back now." Xu Ying said, picking up the basket and leaving.

As soon as Xu Ying had left, Mrs. Lu and her grandson hurried into the room. Seeing only one pair of chopsticks left on the table, her face darkened: "Oh, you wretched girl, did you finish all the fish soup?"

"Don't you know to leave some for your nephew? How could you be so greedy?"

Lu Daya shrank back in fear: "Yingying told me to drink it all or pour out the rest."

Mrs. Lu glared at her daughter and stormed out in a huff.

However, the eldest grandson of the Lu family refused to give up, crying and making a fuss to drink the soup.

In the end, Mrs. Lu pacified him by promising to cook eggs for him in the evening, and he finally calmed down.

Lu Daya listened to the commotion in the room, her heart aching slightly because she was a girl, no matter how hard she tried, her parents would never favor her.

After the family finished their meal and returned to their rooms, she crept to the doorway and whispered to Lu Aimin, who was chopping wood in the yard: "Second Brother, come here for a moment."

Lu Aimin glanced at the yard and then hurriedly carried the firewood into Lu Daya's room.

Indeed, the Lu family's house was small, and the room Lu Daya stayed in was actually a woodshed.

"Daya, did you call me?" Lu Aimin placed the firewood at the corner of the wall and then approached her.

Lu Daya's eyes sparkled as she drew an egg from a box in the corner: "Second Brother, eat quickly. Sister Ying gave it to me."

Lu Aimin looked at the egg in her hand, joy evident in his face. Seeing his sister's pale complexion, he shook his head: "I won't eat it, keep it for yourself."

Lu Daya insisted: "Second Brother, eat quickly. Sister Ying gave me ten, and they'll go bad if not eaten. We can eat one a day for five days."

Lu Aimin, hearing there were so many, was taken aback. The team leader was indeed generous.

He swallowed his saliva, took the egg, quickly peeled it, and then split it in half, giving one half to Lu Daya.

Before Lu Daya could respond, he left the room with the eggshell, went into the yard, and ate the eggshell as well.

After eating the egg, he still licked the corners of his mouth, seemingly unsatisfied.

Xu Ying, carrying the basket and just leaving the Lu's house, hadn't even reached her home when she spotted that bastard Dong Wenzhong.

She clenched her fists in anger, but ultimately held back her rage. Now wasn't the time to fight, she resolved to find an opportunity to secretly beat him to relieve her hatred.

Dong Wenzhong, she intended to make his life miserable for as long as he lived.

To keep herself from exploding, Xu Ying quickly walked past Dong Wenzhong.

Dong Wenzhong was stunned as Xu Ying walked straight past him, as she used to always greet him affectionately and liked to follow behind him.

What's going on today? Could it be because of Yanran?

"Yingying, why are you ignoring me?"

"Who are you to me, why should I care about you?" Xu Ying rolled her eyes at Dong Wenzhong who had run up to her, holding back her hatred as she spoke.

Dong Wenzhong's face stiffened, thinking she was just in a childish mood, and tried to coax her, "Yingying, don't be angry, I didn't know Yanran would pretend to be Sister Daya to save you.

Can't you forgive her for my sake? She's just a child, she doesn't understand."

"A child? Chen Yanran is a year older than me, and she's still a child? Dong Zhiqing, that's really funny," Xu Ying said sarcastically.

Dong Zhiqing's face turned red from being choked by her words, and he stuttered, "Yingying, Yanran already knows she made a mistake, but what's done is done.

Can you stop making a fuss? If you blow this up, Yanran's reputation could be ruined! Do you really have the heart to see her reputation destroyed?

She's like a sister to me, and moreover, my parents really listen to Yanran. If you ruin her,

it won't be easy for my parents later on!"

Dong Wenzhong directly used his parents to press Xu Ying, thinking she liked him and wanted to be his wife.

If his parents didn't agree, how could she marry him? If Xu Ying were sensible, she should know what to do.

Listening to these familiar words, Xu Ying's whole body stiffened, hatred churning in her heart as she looked at Dong Wenzhong's pretentious demeanor, "You're even worse than a white lotus, I can't stand it any longer," and she smacked him across the face.

"Damn you, you disgusting man, you make me sick."

"Xu Ying, are you crazy, how dare you hit me!" Dong Wenzhong roared in anger, covering his face.

"Hitting you? Yes, I hit you! She's grown up and still doesn't know what she should and shouldn't do.

It's ridiculous, she knows she's wrong, but what about Sister Daya and your parents liking her? None of that matters to me."

"For Sister Daya, as long as you don't acknowledge it, she can't do anything.

We'll just compensate Sister Daya later."

"Compensate, how you plan on compensating me, Dong Wenzhong, you're really scheming!" Xu Ying shouted angrily, turned around, and stormed off, fearing she might end up killing him if she stayed any longer.

Dong Wenzhong suddenly panicked, wondering why Xu Ying wasn't listening to him this time.

"Xu Ying, do you still like me or not, don't you want to be with me?"

Xu Ying, green in the face from anger, didn't even turn her head back, and threw out the words, "Not anymore."

If it weren't illegal to beat someone, she would immediately kill that bastard right now, but as a law-abiding citizen, she couldn't just do that openly.

Dong Wenzhong stood there dumbfounded, as if struck by lightning, his face flushing and turning greener with agitation.

Xu Ying said she no longer liked him.

That was impossible—she clearly adored him, she even brought him tasty treats and bought him clothes, sticking to him all day. How could she just say she didn't like him anymore?

He figured it out; Xu Ying was playing hard to get.

"Xu Ying, I'm asking you one last time. If you dare to leave now, don't ever think about being with me again."

Xu Ying stopped in her tracks.

Dong Wenzhong was overjoyed, knowing Xu Ying still liked him, just as he was about to speak.
