Chapter 15 Sister Zheng

The flickering lights fell overhead Jiang Li, as if sensing something, he turned his body towards the door.

Their eyes met, and Liang Zhouyue's heart skipped a beat.

Jiang Li's gaze was usually harmless, but now it was entirely different. He was like a creature long trapped, his eyes brimming with intense masculine energy, firmly locked onto the woman at the door.

He leaned against the karaoke platform with one arm, his passionate singing voice turning somber—

"I know

I can't keep you

I also know

I can't stop crying

Thankful you let me have the beauty of autumn

…"

Liang Zhouyue's breathing gradually became disordered, her gaze unwittingly starting to dart away.

Upon noticing her evasion, Jiang Li suddenly turned his head back, but the smile hanging on his lips never faded.

As the song ended, he put the microphone on the stand, turned and walked toward the door. Without even greeting his friends, he grabbed Liang Zhouyue's wrist and walked outside, but his steps were small, clearly accommodating the woman walking with him.

The hallway was very quiet, not as noisy as imagined, Liang Zhouyue allowed him to lead her downstairs, not struggling on the stairs.

By the time they had completely descended the stairs, she pulled her wrist back from Jiang Li's palm. The tender skin seemed to retain the scorching afterheat, and Liang Zhouyue realized that this action was somewhat excessive, feeling a bit annoyed at the moment.

Intending to maintain a-distance from Jiang Li, she stood somewhat far away.

Jiang Li casually hailed a taxi at the door, then turned to see Liang Zhouyue standing beside it, her eyes downcast, her posture defensive, her movements stiff and restrained.

"Come get in the car."

The night wind was somewhat cool, the rush of heat rising from Jiang Li's chest was gradually dissipating, not enough to affect his mood.

Hearing his voice, Liang Zhouyue quickly approached, but just as she was about to bend down, her gaze froze on her skirt-clad legs, and she looked up, giving Jiang Li, who was holding the car door for her, an awkward smile, "You go first, it's inconvenient for me because I'm wearing a skirt."

Jiang Li didn't speak, his slightly blurry eyes from the alcohol lingered on her legs for two seconds, then he bent his back and got into the backseat on the left.

Liang Zhouyue quickly followed him into the car, not wasting any time.

Soon, the driver stepped on the gas, heading towards Hua University.

Because of the alcohol smell on Jiang Li, Liang Zhouyue rolled down her window, simply wanting to let some fresh air in.

However, this action seemed rather cutting in Jiang Li's eyes. He turned his head, leaned his upper body forward, as if avoiding the driver, and whispered to Liang Zhouyue, "Sister, are you disgusted with me?"

He clearly wasn't that happy, yet a faint smile played across his face, showing a sophistication that was joyous yet not visibly thrilled.

The question sounded somewhat grievous, and Liang Zhouyue, afraid he might misunderstand her, quickly explained, "I'm not disgusted with you, just wanted to disperse the smell of alcohol because…it's a bit uncomfortable."

She was being matter-of-fact, it really wasn't as severe as disgust.

Hearing this, Jiang Li leaned back, tilting his head back against the taxi's seat, his thin lips slowly curling up as if he had thought of something amusing.

The next second, he hummed softly, the sound low, audible only to the woman beside him, "Of course, I can make sister comfortable, it's just unfortunate I drank today, sorry."

The laughter in his voice seemed to pour into Liang Zhouyue's ears, echoing non-stop with a tingling warmth.

She appeared somewhat slow at the moment, remaining silent for two seconds before vaguely understanding the meaning of his words, yet not daring to be sure, afraid that she might misunderstand his intentions.

"Sorry for what?" she blurted out before her brain could catch up, exposing her thoughts.

Jiang Li smiled and shook his head, "The alcohol fumed towards you, sorry."

It was unexpected that a twenty-seven-year-old woman could be so naive as to not grasp his implied meanings.

Across from him, Liang Zhouyue was entirely following his lead in thought, pondering every sentence carefully.

At last, not knowing what to reply, she could only advise kindly, "Then you shouldn't drink anymore. You still live at the school. It's not good if something happens, and drinking can harm your health."

Had someone else said this, Jiang Li would have found them annoying. But at that moment, he quite liked it and even wanted to hear more from her.

He turned his head to look at her. The streetlights outside were hazy, and the soft yellow light from the window fell on Liang Zhouyue's delicate and gentle face, enhancing her sensual features and making her appear more delicate and pure.

Jiang Li was captivated, his smile gradually smoothing out, only his deeply affectionate eyes, unwaveringly admiring the beauty before him.

That gaze was too intense; it was difficult for Liang Zhouyue not to notice it. She turned her face towards him, blatantly meeting his eyes.

"What are you looking at?" she asked straightforwardly.

Jiang Li averted his gaze, returning to his lazy posture, head leaning on the back of the chair, his tone sincere as if critiquing some unique piece of art, "Sister, you're so gorgeous. Do you know that?"

"..."

Liang Zhouyue wished she could bite off her tongue; she should not have asked that.

"Hmm?" Jiang Li raised his brow, relentlessly pursuing.

Liang Zhouyue licked her lips, her throat choked up as she responded softly, "People like me are plenty in school."

Hua University is one of the top universities domestically. The students there not only have backgrounds and achievements but also looks, capabilities, and intelligence. It was unlikely to focus on whether a newcomer teacher from an ordinary family was attractive or not.

This assessment was very familiar to Liang Zhouyue because it was what she always used to admonish herself to have self-awareness. However, it was the first time Jiang Li heard it, and he did not like it.

At that moment, the car drove into a tunnel below the bridge, the lights suddenly went out, and the cabin fell into temporary darkness, with the roaring wind outside.

It was unclear what position Jiang Li was in, but Liang Zhouyue could feel his scorching breath spraying at her ear, steady and forceful, "Sister, be confident. You are truly unique."

The wind rattled the windows, the tunnel's sounds brief and commanding, the light obscured by the road soon enveloped their vehicle, as if the daylight suddenly brightened.

Liang Zhouyue's gloomy heart cleared up, her breath became smooth, and her mind relaxed.

"Thank you."

The girl's subtle voice wasn't captivating enough, but it was enough to conquer Jiang Li's aloof and wayward heart, completely captivating him.

He felt a bit sleepy. Seeing there was still some distance ahead, he closed his eyes to rest, reducing his presence.

The wind was loud, and Liang Zhouyue couldn't hear Jiang Li's breathing, making it hard to guess whether he had actually fallen asleep.

At this moment, as the scenes outside the window rushed past, the voice that seemed embedded in her ear did not dissipate.

She had to be confident; she was unique...

He Jinseng had never said those words to her. Most of the time, he spoke to her with dogmatism, and even if she became annoyed and unwilling to listen, he would persist in completing his lecture, trying hard to make her accept his suggestions and to change according to his ideas.

If only he could speak nicely like Jiang Li did.
