Sylvia had healed properly and Vernon was not bothering her anymore, which she was grateful for.
In a couple of days, some elites were coming from other kingdoms, and even though they were friends, there was an underlying tone of who had their kingdom and marriage under control.
Sylvia knew that she would have to fake her act with Vernon, hoping that no one would see through their act.
Yet she wondered if Vernon was capable of fake acting.
Sylvia had spent days preparing herself, and tonight after dressing up. Fragrance was put on her, she was ready to go.
Sylvia stepped out, and made her way. The men were already there as they catching up on who knows what.
Sylvia arrived, and she was the last one in,
"The Queen of Lanchester arrives."
Sylvia walked in and everyone turned to her, she saw how everyone was taking her appearance in. The men didn't bother to hide how they were looking at her, some lusting after her.
The women seemed to be a bit standoffish, and she sat next to Vernon.
"My King."
Vernon smiled, "My Queen, you look lovelier than ever."
He placed a kiss on her neck, and when he pulled back, she was blushing.
"Thank you, My King."
"The rumors are true. She is the most beautiful." Said one man.
"So much so." Another agreed.
"She is the fairest." Another said.
"A rare gem." Another added.
Some of the men kept on glancing at her, and Sylvia needed to play her part. She took a sip of her wine.
She looked at Vernon with adoring eyes as he spoke, but now she was truly analyzing him.
Why couldn't he be like this all the time? Why was he like that to her, especially? Maybe someone must have hurt him deeply.
Vernon turned to her, and he placed a kiss
The night was going well, and it was time to dance. Vernon took her hand, he led her to the dance floor.
His hand went around her waist, and he pulled her so close.
"Who are you trying to impress?" Vernon whispered in her ear.
"Sorry?"
"Do you want attention from other men that badly?"
"What?, I prepared myself just for you."
"You expect me to believe that?"
"Yes, who else would it be for?"
"I mean, when I saw you last time My Queen, you did not want to keep me company, but today you changed your mind."
Sylvia leaned back and her hand went to his neck, she pulled him down by force; she kissed him.
She pulled back, but he was not done, his hand went into her hair. He leaned down. He kissed her so hard that when he pulled back, she could barely breathe.
"Don't start something that you can't finish." Said Vernon.
She nodded, and they headed back to their seats.
"My Lady, would you do me the honor?." One of the men asked.
"Of course."
She took the man's hand, and they went to the dance floor.
"Thank you for letting me dance with you."
"It would be rude to decline." She replied.
After finishing, she headed back to her seat. When another man approached her, she went with them to the dance floor.
When the song finished, she sat back down, when another man was about to approach her,
"That's enough. My wife has danced enough, dance with each other." Said Vernon and the way he had said it, no one could defy him.
Her shoulders sagged in relief. The food came, and they began to eat. After the meal, they began to watch performances.
Vernon placed his hand under her chair and pulled her stark next to him. Then he wrapped his arm around her.
Sylvia leaned in and rested her head on his chest. She could hear him breathe deeply. This was her chance to do what she wanted.
She wrapped her hand around his abdomen and snuggled closer to him. She could pretend at this moment that he loved her. He kissed the top of her head.
"I know we have to act, but you don't have to hold onto me so tightly." He whispered in her ear.
"Then push me back if you don't want to."
"You know I can't do that." He replied, it seemed as if he was striving for patience. She was grating on his nerves and she loved it.
Let him feel how she felt most of the time. It was funny how he couldn't take his own medicine.
"Then deal with it, My King." She nuzzled her head, and she listened to his heart beating. The minute that the performance ended, he pulled back.
One look at his face, Sylvia knew that she would be in trouble for pulling this stunt but this time she would fight back.
She was doing what was discussed.
The evening finished, and of course, she had to sleep in Vernon's room. She walked in.
He slammed the door shut.
