The Rules

'It's not that I don't like it here… but this world isn't where I belong.'

That was the answer Leon had received from Emma the previous day. The words lingered in his mind like a faint echo, refusing to fade. Tapping his fingers rhythmically on the desk, his gaze remained fixed on the closed door of his office.

When the door finally creaked open, it snapped him out of his deep thoughts.

"Sir, I knocked earlier, but you didn't answer…" Julian's voice wavered slightly, his nerves could be seen under Leon's sharp glare as the door swung wide.

"Come in," Leon said, his expression softening. He leaned back in his chair, letting out a long breath as he closed his eyes, trying to push Emma's words out of his mind—if only for a moment.

"Regarding your request for Miss Melissa's background check, we didn't find anything odd," Julian began, placing the document on the table. "But there's one detail that stood out to me, though it might be nothing."
